    Call For Papers - CFP

    Scope

    Quickly emerging from the fast-paced growth of mobile communications and wireless technologies, pervasive games take gaming away from the computer screen and back to the three-dimensional world. Now games can be designed to be played in public spaces like hospitals and rehabilitation centers, shopping malls, conferences, museums and other non-traditional game venues. The increasing deployments of Internet of Thing (IoT) technologies are opening up new avenues of research and deployment opportunities towards that future of pervasive games design. Game designers need to understand how to use the world as a game space-and both the challenges and advantages of doing so.

    This workshop shows how to change the face of play by designing for: who plays, when and where they play and what that play means to all involved. It will tackle key aspects of pervasive games that concern game designers and stakeholders: what makes these games compelling, what makes them possible today and how they are made. For game researchers, it provides a solid theoretical, philosophical and aesthetic understanding of this genre as well as its several application areas.

    Pervasive Games workshop activities will cover everything from theory and design to history and marketing. This "Gamified " one day event will engage participants in a progressive, innovative, and exciting workshop of pervasive games development. The participants will learn & experience the key building blocks needed to design Pervasive games for various sectors. Such as Health-Wellbeing, AAL, Smart Cities, Smart Societies, Education, Culture, Heritage, Arts & Crafts, Tourism and more.

    Topics

    Topics of interests include, but are not limited to:

    Health-Wellbeing

    AAL

    Smart Cities

    Smart Societies

    Education

    Culture

    Heritage

    Arts & Crafts

    Tourism

    Creativity

    Internet of Things

    Goals

    The participants will learn & experience in a highly interactive and conceptual format the key building blocks needed to design Pervasive games for various sectors.

    Structure

    The event is based on a 2 staged game, and each stage provides the participants with a new knowledge & capacity, needed in order to develop their system\product\ service and to win the game!

    Each team (max 5 participants) will be comprised of heterogenic participants from various complimentary disciplines relevant to development topic. The teams will be assigned with a mentor from the hosting partners (La Sapienza, CREATE-NET, EP).

    The game sessions will be based on Charles Coonradt's, the author of “The Game of Work” key principles:

    Clearly defined goals;

    Better scorekeeping and scorecards;

    More frequent feedback;

    A higher degree of personal choice of methods;

    Consistent coaching.

    Additions to the conference

    Inspiration corner ? presenting demos and examples of games;

    Call for Mockups \ demos will be presented in our Exhibition;

    Contest between all the projects\demos.

    Publication

    The proceedings are submitted for inclusion to the leading indexing services: DBLP, Google Scholar, Thomson Scientific ISI Proceedings, EI Elsevier Engineering Index, CrossRef, Scopus, as well as ICST's own EU Digital Library (EUDL).

    Best papers will be invited to publish in the EAI Endorsed Transactions on Serious Games.

    Paper Submission

    Regular Papers should be up to 6 pages in length. Complete formatting and submission instructions are available here.

    Submissions will be reviewed anonymously by at least three expert reviewers.

    Papers will be judged on originality, correctness, clarity and relevance. Submitted papers must be original work, and may not be under consideration for another conference or journal.

    Submission of the paper implies agreement of the author(s) to attend the conference and present the paper if accepted.

    Call for posters

    Authors who wish to present their work as posters are required to submit a one-page PDF with a title and an abstract of their work (not the poster itself). Submissions should preferably represent early work that is not yet ready for submission to a refereed conference or journal, or describe a technical (non-marketing) innovation. Authors of accepted posters are expected to prepare and present their posters: during the event will be given 10 minutes max each to present the poster, then it will be run the interactive sessions on gamification design.

    Important Dates:

    Full Paper Submission deadline

    15 June 2015

    Notification deadline

    25 July 2015

    Camera-ready deadline

    25 August 2015

    Start of Conference

    26 October 2015
