Call For Papers - CFP
ADBI/NSFC Conference on Escaping the Middle Income Trap: Urbanization, Structural Change and Sustainable Development in Asia After the World War II, only about 10 economies escaped the middle-income trap, including East Asian economies of Japan, Korea, Taibei,China and Singapore. They achieved high growth for a sufficient period to reach high income status through well-managed urbanization, smooth structural change, technological progress and so on. Whether other Asian economies, particularly the People’s Republic of China, can follow suit appeals for both theoretical and empirical research.Against the above background, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) and the Natural Science Foundation of China Key Project (NSFC 71133004) solicit submissions of unpublished papers which address any aspect of middle income trap issue in Asia. The following list is for references only:1. Lessons and experiences based on East Asian model of urbanization, structural change and sustainable development;2. Country case studies on the prospect of escaping the middle income trap;3. Major social and economic effects of urbanization and structural change in Asia; 4. The role of government in managing urbanization and structural change, particularly at different development stages;5. What are the major challenges for Asian economies to escape the middle-income trap? 6. Other relevant issues.Selected papers will be published in a book or a journal special issue. The organizers will cover the costs of accommodation and travel (round-trip economy-class ticket) plus a small sum of allowance, for one presenter of each paper accepted. No registration fee will be charged.Submission Deadlines: Draft paper(s)/extended abstract(s) by Oct 15, 2015; Final Paper(s) by Nov. 15, 2015.
