    Call for Papers

For almost three decades, the BTW conference has been the central forum for the German-speaking database community. Every two years, scientists, practitioners and users meet here to exchange ideas on the many topics of database and information system technology. The field of data management has undergone considerable changes in recent years and many new challenges have risen, for example storing, processing and utilizing vast amounts of unstructured data, as they are generated in social networks or some scientific applications. Furthermore, new architectural approaches using cloud environments for scalable data management gain momentum and have not yet been fully explored.

The BTW conference addresses open challenges and possible solutions likewise. Some of the various hot topics of this 2017 conference are: new hardware and memory technologies, information extraction, information integration, big data analytics, web data management, service-oriented computing and cloud computing.

Both theoretical and application-oriented scientific contributions on the advancement of databases and information systems are accepted in the BTW 2017 scientific program. Contributions concerning the commercial use of database and information system technology, experiences and current trends in the industry are accepted in the industrial program. For the first time BTW hosts a Data Science Challenge, where students (PhD, master and bachelor) can compete with their cloud-based data analysis approach. Results from student theses can be presented in the student program. Furthermore, the best dissertations of the last two years in the BTW topics of interest will be honored at the conference. Recommendations for these awards are most welcome.

We invite contributions relating to all aspects of data management and implementation of information systems.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following:

    - "Big Data" management, including NOSQL data models and query processing

    - Data management for scientific computing

    - Data management in the cloud, novel data management infrastructures

    - Privacy and security in data management

    - Data integration and schema engineering

    - Implementation of data management systems, performance analyses, benchmarks, and architectures

    - Query processing and index structures

    - Stream data management and main memory databases

    - Knowledge management and data mining

    - Workflow management and information systems

As with previous BTW conferences, both full papers (original contributions or surveys) and short papers (about current projects and preliminary results of ongoing research) are welcome. Contributions are accepted in German or English and have to comply with the layout guidelines. Full papers may be up to 20 pages, short papers up to 10 pages. Papers beyond the page limit will be rejected without review. A novelty in the reviewing process is the second round of reviews to ensure that the recommendations of the reviewers will be regarded in the final versions. Accepted contributions will be published in GI Edition "Lecture Notes in Informatics" (LNI).

    Papers are submitted via CMT:
