    The Second “Annual Asia and the Middle East Conference” will be held at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland on 11th-13th April 2018. The event, organized under the theme “Conflict and Cooperation in the Interdependent World” will be hosted by the Institute of Middle and Far East of Jagiellonian University.

    The “Annual Asia and the Middle East Conference” aims at creating a platform of communication between academia and expert community to broaden the understanding of political processes in Eurasia. We hope to widen knowledge on such issues as international trade and politics, international rivalry and conflicts, geopolitical power shifts and its regional manifestations. We intend to create a unique event, that offers an opportunity for presentation of newest and inspiring research in the field. We aim also at knowledge generation through discussions and debates on the most pressing issues of contemporary political and economic relations within Eurasia.

    Below is the preliminary list of topics we would like to explore during the conference:

    - Iranian-Saudi rivalry and the changing Middle East

    - Re-thinking nationalism and sectarianism in the Middle East

    - Turkey’s foreign policy: hedging or strategic shift

    - Tensions in the Persian Gulf

    - North Korea crisis: a catalyst of US–China tensions?

    - China-Russia relations – cooperation without interdependence?

    - East Asia – a shifting Power balance or business as usual

    - Balancing powers in Asia: policy approaches of India, Japan and South Korea

    - Central Asia and the Caucasus: prospects and limitations of a Silk Road initiatives

    - Eurasian perspectives on US leadership

    - New old player – consequences of Russia’s Middle Eastern comeback

    Roundtable: Asia-Europe trade patterns and trends

    Roundtable: Middle East-Europe economic relations

    Roundtable: Ideas for Syria’s future

    Conference Fee:

    Regular – 100 EUR /440 PLN (Early bird – before March 11th)

    Regular – 120 EUR/500 PLN (after March 11th)

    Student – 25 EUR/100 PLN

    Important Dates:

    - 15th March – deadline to submit an abstract of paper proposals

    Paper proposals on topics related to contemporary Asian and Middle Eastern affairs should consist of a one-page summary and an author’s C.V. Acceptances will be made on a rolling basis and applicants will be notified whether they have been admitted up to seven days after they apply.

    - 15th March – deadline to submit panel proposals

    Proposal submissions must include contact information for the panel organizer; a panel title; names, affiliations, paper proposals, and; C.V.’s of three to four presenters.

    - 11th -13th April – the Conference

    - 11th May – deadline to submit a final paper
