    Call For Papers - CFP

BIOCICON 2011 is aimed to promote basic and applied research and development for ecofriendly pest disease and nematode management in agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL BIOPESTICIDE CONFERENCE (BIOCICON 2011): BIOCICON-2011 is being organized from 28 to 30 November 2011 by Crop Protection Research Centre, Department of Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Palayamkottai, Tamil Nadu, India in collaboration with Centre for Plant Protection Studies Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. This conference is in continuation of BIOCICON 2009 held previously in the same Institution assisted by Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, Ministry of Earth Science, New Delhi and Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST), Chennai. BIOCICON 2011 is aimed to promote basic and applied research and development for ecofriendly pest disease and nematode management in agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

Biopesticides are living organisms (natural enemies) or their products (phytochemicals, microbial products) or byproducts (semiochemicals) which can be used for the management of pests (microorganisms ? nematodes, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, virus and viroid; microorganisms ? invertebrates and vertebrates) that are injurious to plants. Biopesticides have an important and increasing role in crop protection, although most commonly in combination with other tools including chemical pesticides as part of Bio-intensive Integrated Pest Management (BIPM). World-wide use of biopesticides has been rapidly increasing. In that spirit, this new conference aims to attract researchers from a broad range of academic disciplines who are contributing in the fighting against harmful pest and diseases. Not only those more traditionally involved in this research area (microbiologists, biologists, entomologists, chemists, genetics…), but also experimental and theoretical/computational chemists (rational design of antimicrobial compounds, chemical synthesis, analogues, surface modification of materials…), physicists (radiation, nano-emulsions (surface tension), ultrasounds, antimicrobial materials, properties of nano-materials...) and engineers (technologies). Industry and public partnership are also being proposed. Hence we are organizing the “Third International Biopesticide Conference’’ with the mantra of organic crop production and protection for sustained and safe food supply.

TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED IN THE CONFERENCE

Botanicals: flowering and non-flowering plants; extraction, isolation, identification, characterization and formulation of biopesticides, Essential oils, Plant/Herbal extracts

Microbial insecticides: Bacteria, fungi, virus, nematodes; quorum sensing (Interfering microbe-microbe communication); Antimicrobial substances from terrestrial and marine organisms, Essential oils, Bioactive phytochemicals, Plant/Herbal extracts, Purification, Structural determination, formulations

Bio-safety and registration of biopesticides: Against beneficial, useful and productive organisms; biopesticides registration.

Biotechnology: nano-materials (nanoparticles, nanocrystals, nanograined materials; pesticidal peptides, pesticidal enzymes; GM crops, Semiochemicals

Economics, Investment and partnerships: Economics and Investment in Biopesticides Industries; Industries - Scientist and public partnership.

    PLENARY LECTURES

We are delighted to announce that the following Plenary Lectures will take place during the conference:

“Botanicals in stored pest management” by Dr. Saeid Moharramipour, Tarbiat Modares University, Iran

“Integrating Bio-pesticides in Pest Management Strategies for Tropical Vegetable Production” by Dr. R. Srinivasan, The World Vegetable Center, Taiwan

“Biopesticides growing worldwide: A safe option in crop protection” by Dr. K. Dikshit, IARI, New Delhi

“Biological control of the main fruit pests in Bulgari” by Dr. Hristina Kutinkova, Fruit Growing Institute, Plovdiv, Bulgaria

    CALL FOR RESEARCH PAPER

Abstracts to be submitted for presentation at the BIOCICON 2011 must be sent to the Organizing Secretary. Each submission must be accompanied by three copies of abstract (within 250 words, without any sketch, tables, reference etc.) and a soft copy (Times New Roman, Font size 12 with double spacing) by email to biocicon2011atgmail.com on or before 30th June 2011. Name of the presenting author and corresponding author must be specified clearly with their full postal address, phone number, fax number, mobile number, and e-mail address in the abstract. Each author is entitled to submit only two papers. Additional charge will be collected for each additional submission (Rs.300 or US$ 30 for each submission). Abstracts received after June 30, 2011 and up to August 15, 2011 will be considered only for poster presentation.

    VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION

In addition to the oral and posters presentations, a Virtual Participation mode has been established for those researchers who are unable to attend the Conference personally. These participants will be requested to send "virtual papers", which will be exhibited at the online platform for virtual participation. These papers can be prepared using Power Point, Flash or similar software, or video recordings. Please consult the conference secretary for details.
