The Second International Workshop on Human Control of Ubiquitous Systems(HUCUBIS'09)in conjunction with COMSWARE 2009July 15, 2009Trinity College Dublin, Irelandhttp://www.informatik.uni-mannheim.de/pi4/projects/hucubis09/*** Submission Deadline: April 24, 2009 ***OVERVIEW AND SCOPE:A major challenge in adaptive ubiquitous systems is to allow users tocustomize and control the system behaviour according to theirneeds. As an example, if a system fails or multiple users want toachieve conflicting goals, the system has to stay controllable by itsusers. At the same time, the system must ensure that its users are notdistracted. The goal of this workshop is to discuss how to keep usersin the control loop of ubiquitous systems while realizingdistraction-free system operation. To do so, we will bring togetherresearchers from the areas of human computer interaction, adaptivesystems, and ubiquitous computing to provide and discuss novel ideasand techniques for the control of ubiquitous systems. Topics includeappropriate middleware and service platforms, novel multimediainterfaces (e.g. virtual environments or gesture recognition), as wellas user studies and evaluations of user controlled ubiquitous systems. We are seeking original, previously unpublished papers addressinghuman control in ubiquitous systems. All submissions will be judged bytheir technical merit and relevance to the workshop, based on athorough review process by the Technical Program Committee.Papers should have a length of up to six pages and will be published in electronic proceedings in the ACM digital library. Additional information about the submission is available at the workshop web page.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:* End user configuration for ubiquitous systems.* Development tools for user control of ubiquitous systems.* Novel human computer interaction and multimedia control interfaces(e.g., virtual environments, gesture recognition, speech) forubiquitous systems.* Self-learning adaptive systems.* Middleware and service platforms for distributed adaptive systems.* Support for error handling.* Conflict detection and conflict management for adaptive ubiquitoussystems. * User studies and evaluations about user controlled ubiquitoussystems.
