The scope of the conferencehas been expanded in recent years to include management ofemerging mobile and wireless networks and their integrationwith more traditional network infrastructures. The objectiveof the conference is to bring together researchers and scientistsfrom academia and industry interested in state-of-the-artmanagement of converged multimedia networks and services acrossheterogeneous networking infrastructures, while creating a publicvenue for result dissemination and intellectual collaboration. The convergence of existing and emerging technologies such asbroadband, mobile, and broadcast networks is considered as apromising opportunity for existing providers to increase theirservice subscriber base, so that the 4G vision and beyond becomesa reality. An important research effort is undertaken by mainactors to face the multidimensional, in terms of transporttechnology, session signaling, and QoS provisioning, heterogeneityof Next Generation Networks (NGNs). The efficient management ofwireless and wired technologies side-by-side and of the number ofmultimedia services provisioned over these integrated networks isa key ingredient in the effort to provide cost effective, innovative, and mass-market solutions that are likely to become amajor source of income for different stakeholders. The need toevolve management tools, solutions, platforms and methodologies tokeep pace with emerging networks is at a critical juncture withthe proliferation of mobile and wireless systems, intelligent andbroadband networks, quadruple play convergence, and theintegration of embedded systems in different domains, from smarthomes/cities to next generation automotive systems. The academic and industry research communities should unify forcesto address the challenges of developing and operating convergedmultimedia networks and services. Inevitably, integrated managementis a key element in addressing this challenge. The MMNS 2009 technical program committee is soliciting researchpapers in the broad area of network and service management thataddress new models, architectures, and technological designs toenable multimedia and mobility proliferation in NGNs. MMNS 2009intends to continue the success of the outstanding agendas of thepast, and will emphasize and solicit novel research in themanagement of wired-wireless multimedia networks and services.Topics of interest include but are not limited to:Management of multimedia streaming and real-time service deliveryManagement of wireless ad-hoc/mesh networksManagement of NGN/4G networks and servicesManagement of Service Oriented ArchitecturesManagement of sensor networks for enhanced multimedia provisioningMiddleware for the management of mobile multimedia servicesMiddleware support for seamless mobility of multimedia servicesMulti-service/multiple-play over IP (voice, video, data andmobility over IP) network managementGrid networking for multimediaCross-layer multimedia managementMultimedia in peer-to-peer networksQuality of service management in multimedia and mobile networksPlanning and optimization of multimedia and mobile networksIP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) operations and managementManagement of service delivery platformsManagement of content distribution networkingDistributed multimedia service managementPerformance evaluation of multimedia and mobile servicesWireless/mobile multimedia broadcast/multicast technologiesNovel protocols for multimedia servicesMulti-point and multicast service managementPricing, accounting, and billing for multimedia servicesManagement of trust and security for mobile and multimedianetworks and servicesSelf-* properties of multimedia and mobile networks and servicesNetwork virtualization for network management and service provisioningRemote over-the-air manageability in mobile networksEnd-to-end management for multimedia transmission inmobile/wireless networksMobile platform architecture optimizations for management servicesNetwork manageability across heterogeneous wireless networksNovel network architectures for mobile network management servicesPAPER SUBMISSIONPaper submissions must present original and unpublished researchwork or experiences. MANWEEK 2009 is the fifth in a series of events that was established in 2005, and will bring together leading figures from academia and industry to present and discuss the latest advances in management of networks and services. The Scientific Programme will include presentations given by leading invited speakers, as well as presentations based upon refereed papers selected by the International Programme Committee. The conference will take place at the Future Centre in Campo San Salvador close to Rialto. Rialto is an area of the San Polo sestiere of Venice, Italy, known for its markets and for the Rialto Bridge. The area was settled by the ninth century, when a small area in the middle of the Realtine Islands either side of the Rio Businiacus was known as the Rivoaltus, the "high bank". Soon, the Businiacus became known as the Grand Canal, and the district became the Rialto, referring only to the area on the left bank. The Rialto became an important district in 1097. The market grew, both as a retail and as a wholesale market. Warehouses were built, including the famous Fondaco dei Tedeschi on the other side of the bridge. Meanwhile, shops selling luxury goods, banks and insurance agencies appeared and the city's tax offices were located in the area. The city's abattoir was also in the Rialto. Most of the buildings in the Rialto were destroyed in a fire in 1514, the sole survivor being the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto, while the rest of the area was gradually rebuilt. The Fabriche Vecchie dates from this period, while the Fabbriche Nuove is only slightly more recent, dating from 1553.Manweek 2009 will be supported by a comprehensive social programme, including a Welcome Reception, a Conference Banquet and a social event. You are warmly invited to participate and we are looking forward to welcoming you to Manweek 2009 that is going to host the most reputable workshops in the area of management of networks and services:DSOM 2009 - 20th IFIP/IEEE Intn.
