ICML'12 Workshop on Machine Learning for Clinical Data Analysis

    Date: June 30 - July 1, 2012

    Location: Edinburgh, Scotland

    https://sites.google.com/site/mlclinicaldata/

Clinical and health-care applications have been and continue to be the source of inspiration for many areas of artificial intelligence research. Much progress in various sub-specialties of AI has been inspired by the clinical domain. A new challenge for AI in general, but machine learning in particular, arises from the wealth and variety of data generated in modern medical and health-care settings. Extensive electronic medical records ? with thousands of fields recording a patient conditions, diagnostic tests, treatments, outcomes, as well as narrative about the patient and care delivery ? provide an unprecedented source of information. Tapping into this data source can bring clues leading to improvements in a wide range of health-care applications, such as disease modeling and early detection, chronic disease management, and efficient design of clinical trials.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together machine learning and informatics researchers interested in problems and applications in the clinical domain, with the goal of exchanging ideas and perspectives, identifying research bottlenecks and medical applications, bridging the gap between the theory of machine learning, natural language processing, and the needs of the healthcare community, and, in general, raising awareness of potential healthcare applications in the machine learning community.

We seek full paper and extended abstract submissions developing new or applying existing ML methods to clinical and health-care applications. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

    - Mining and analysis of clinical time-series data

    - Mining and analysis of clinical text data

    - Knowledge discovery from electronic health records

    - Disease modeling and detection

    - Patient monitoring and alerting

    - Patient outcome prediction

    - Clinical outlier detection

    - Optimization of patient-management workflows

    - Design of clinical trials

    - Methods for personalized medicine and care

    - Integration of clinical data sources and domain knowledge

    - Integration of phenotypic and genotypic data

    Submission Details

The full papers submitted to the workshop should be at most eight pages long following the ICML paper format. The extended abstracts should be 1-2 pages long in the same format. The full-paper submissions will be considered and may be accepted for either an oral or a poster presentation, the extended abstracts may be accepted for the poster presentation only.

    Important Dates
