    IASSIST 2010, the 36th Annual Conference of the International Association for Social Science Information Service and Technology (IASSIST) will be hosted by the Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER) and Cornell University Library (CUL) and will be held at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York, USA, on 1-4 June 2010.

    The theme of this year's conference is Social Data and Social Networking: Connecting Social Science Communities across the Globe. Social science has begun to feel the impact of the dramatic shift in communication patterns globally, where social networking and other digital media trends are changing how social scientists study the world around them. This theme is intended to stimulate discussion about the impact of social networking on the creation, collection, sharing, storage, preservation, dissemination, confidentiality, licensing of, and access to data. Of particular interest is how social connectivity has facilitated multi-site and cross-national social science research.

    We welcome submissions on the theme outlined above, and encourage conference participants to propose papers and sessions that would be of interest to themselves and other attendees. Any paper related to the conference theme will be considered; below is a sample of possible topics.

    Social networking and international collaboration

    Emerging data formats

    Community-driven annotation of data

    Applying metadata standards for data

    Infrastructure for data collection, access, analysis and preservation

    New data partnerships in knowledge communities

    Cross national/international comparative data resources

    Partnerships, roles and responsibilities of data services and data repositories

    Developing social networks in data curation, data management, and user focused support services

    Papers will be selected from a wide range of subjects to ensure a broad balance of topics.

    The Program Committee welcomes proposals for:

    Individual presentations (typically 15-20 minutes)

    Sessions, which could take a variety of formats (e.g. a set of three to four presentations, a discussion panel, a discussion with the audience, etc.)

    Posters/demonstrations for the poster session

    This year we would also be interested in receiving submissions for sessions and presentations in new formats, in particular

    Pecha Kucha (a presentation of 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each, heavy emphasis on visual content) http://www.wired.com/techbiz/media/magazine/15-09/st_pechakucha

    Round table discussions (as these are likely to have limited spaces, an explanation of how the discussion will be shared with the wider group should form part of the proposal).

    Session formats are not limited to the ideas above and session organizers are welcome to suggest other formats.

    Proposals for complete sessions should list the organizer or moderator and possible participants; the session organizer will be responsible for securing both session participants and a chair.

    All submissions should include the proposed title and an abstract no longer than 200 words (note: longer abstracts will be returned to be shortened before being considered). Please note that all presenters are required to register and pay the registration fee for the conference; registration for individual days will be available.

    The Conference Program Committee may not be able to accept all proposals.

    Conference submissions are now being accepted.

    Deadline for submission: 30 November 2009.

    Notification of acceptance: 1 February 2010.
