DESCRIPTIONThe Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) is used by over 200 countries, territories, or customs unions around the world to assign a number to each product to establish the appropriate duty that should be paid when goods are imported into a country. The HTS number is "harmonized" to the first six digits. Each contracting party to the HTS is required to apply the General Rules of Interpretation and all section, chapter and subheading notes without modification. The HTS is also used to determine whether goods are subject to "other agency requirements", quotas or free trade agreements. Proper classification is also vital for establishing eligibility under many free trade agreements, i.e. completion of the NAFTA Certificate of Origin for trade between U.S., Canada, and Mexico as well as trade agreements between the U.S. and Chile, Singapore, Australia, Central America-Dominican Republic, Peru, Korea, Colombia, and Panama. Why should you attend : Understand the rules that are required to classify pharmaceuticals in Chapter 30 and Chemicals in Chapters 28 and 29 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.Minimise errors in classification and better prepare companies for import/export audits from the government. It will also assist companies who are eligible for free trade agreements, ex. NAFTA, and other agreements, in properly completing Certificates of Origin.Areas Covered in the Session:Structure of the HTSDefinition of common termsGeneral Rules of Interpretation 1 through 6Section, Chapter, and Explanatory NotesExamples of the Rules pertaining to pharmaceuticals and chemicalsPharmaceutical AgreementPharmaceutical AppendixChemical AppendixClassification RulingsPenaltiesResourcesWho Will Benefit:Importers, Exporters, Manufacturers, Chemists, Freight Forwarders/Customhouse Brokers, Consultants, Attorneys, compliance personnel classifying pharmaceuticals in Chapter 30 and chemicals in Chapter 28 and 29 of the HTS and qualifying goods under free trade agreements, ex.
