    Introduction
Following the success of the first two international conferences on Environmental Toxicology, held in Mykonos in 2006 and Granada in 2008, it has been decided to reconvene the meeting in Cyprus in 2010.
This International Conference will address the need for the exchange of scientific information among experts on issues related to environmental toxicology, toxicity assessment and hazardous waste management. With large numbers of new chemicals entering the market every year, it has become necessary to assess their effects on ecosystems as well as minimise their impact on the environment.
The science of Environmental Toxicology is one of the most interdisciplinary. Biologists, microbiologists chemists, engineers, environmentalists, ecologists and other scientists have worked hand in hand within this new discipline. The issue of assessment of environmental effects of chemicals is very complex. It depends on the organism tested and involves not only toxicity testing of single chemicals but also interactive effects such as genotoxicity, mutagenicity and immunotoxicity testing. There is a growing need for techniques and practices to minimise the environmental effects of chemicals and for the implementation of the corresponding principles in the planning of environmental policy and decision-making.
Delegates attending Environmental Toxicology 2010 will be invited to submit an expanded version of their paper for publication in the International Journal of Sustainable Development and Planning, associated with the Wessex Institute of Technology.
The goal of the International Conference on Environmental Toxicology is to bring together researchers, managers, policy makers and other groups of the scientific community, who are active in the related areas and to give them a forum for exchanging information through the presentation and discussion of papers dealing with the wide variety of topics listed. Case study papers are encouraged, while papers of a more theoretical nature, dealing with advanced mathematical and computational methods, will also be within the scope of the conference.
