    Call For Papers - CFP

Special Session "Hot-MMCS: Hot Topics on Multimedia Communication Systems”

at the Fourth IEEE International Workshop on Cloud Computing Systems, Networks, and Applications (CCSNA)

In conjunction with IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM 2015), San Diego, CA, USA, 6-10 December, 2015

Special session is technically co-sponosred by the IEEE Multimedia Communication Technical Committee and IEEE Special Interest Group on Multimedia Communication Systems, as well as the IEEE Technical Committee on Green Communications and Computing and IEEE Special Interest Group on Green Data Center and Cloud Computing.

    SCOPE

Recent advances on multimedia streaming and delivery are enabling a plethora of new services. We observe a shift from the more passive model of consuming multimedia to the more interactive, mobile, and closer tight to social activities. The arrival of cloud computing and social networks has enabled novel paradigms for media sharing and interactivity. The workshop session solicits original and innovative technical papers that focus on hot topics and aspects of multimedia communication systems. The organizers are interested in understanding solutions that address emerging challenges related to the new multimedia systems paradigm, as a complex ecosystem of devices, users, communication networking systems and media/content. The papers may have a focus spanning “across” the protocol stack ? from the physical layer to the application layer and user-interaction aspects.

After a rigorous peer-review process and based on the recommendations from key experts in the field, the session organizers will select the few best papers. The relevant criteria for a paper are: relevance to the field, timeliness of research questions tackled and originality and technical merit of research conducted.

All submissions must be original work that has not been published or submitted elsewhere. The submission format will follow IEEE Globecom guidelines. The papers will be available through the IEEE Xplore and added to the Conference Proceedings.

Topics of Interest include but are not limited to:

    - Multimedia content distribution

    - Distributed environments and collaboration

    - Multimedia streaming

    - Multimedia interaction

    - Multimedia transport and delivery

    - Multi-Sensory media experiences

    - Tele-Presence and 3D tele-immersion

    - Mobile multimedia communications

    - QoE for multimedia communications

    - Media synchronization

    - Socially-Aware multimedia communication

    - Multimedia communication systems for eHealth, eLearning and other emerging applications

With this workshop, the organisers are seeking to provide an overview of the hot topics in multimedia communication systems, highlighting key challenges and priorities for new directions of research and showcasing novel solutions. Additional session objectives include initiating the appropriate collaborations and building community around a theme of interest. We plan to produce a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia as a result of this session.

    Submission guidelines

Authors are invited to submit papers along the guidelines of the workshop http://www.ieee-ccsna.org/ccsna_gc15/ Paper length should not exceed five-page (5) standard IEEE conference two-column format (including all text, figures, and references). Submission of paper is done via EDAS http://www.edas.info/newPaper.php?c=20673&track=74275

    Important dates

    Submission: 1 July 2015

Notification of acceptance: 1 September 2015

    Final version: 1 October 2015

    Special Session Organisers

Katarzyna Wac, Univ. of Copenhagen, DK and University of Geneva, CH (wacatdi.ku.dk)

Yung-Hsiang Lu, Purdue University, USA (yungluatpurdue.edu)

    Sergio Cabrero, CWI, NL (cabreroatcwi.nl)

The IEEE Multimedia Communications Technical Committee (MMTC) promotes this workshop. The committee examines systems, applications, services, and techniques in which two or more media are used in the same session. Its scope includes conversational, presentational, and transactional applications and the underlying networking systems to support them. From the fourteen groups that compose the committee, the Interest Group on Multimedia Communication Systems (MCSIG), which facilitates and promotes research and development on the aspects of such systems, is the one proposing this workshop.

MCSIG studies different aspects of multimedia communication systems, including media delivery and streaming. The interests are broad, covering both media consumption and mediated communication. Some examples of the research under consideration include the transition from video-mediated communication towards 3D tele-immersion, the consideration of social cues for optimizing the network resources, and the future of mobile multimedia. Special attention is paid to the human aspects, where QoE plays a crucial role for improving the media experience. The provision of immersive experiences (e.g., multi-sensory) that are coherent (e.g., synchronization) and interactive is as well of great interest.
