Global Initiatives Symposium in Taiwan (GIS Taiwan) is an international student conference founded in 2008, which is established, organized and executed by college students in Taiwan. Inspired by St. Gallen Symposium in Switzerland, the objective of GIS Taiwan is to provide the future leaders with an interactive platform for in-depth discussions on global issues in East Asia.
Through dialogues and interactions, experiences can be shared; effective solutions can thus be generated to address current issues in a feasible manner in the land of Taiwan. GIS Taiwan sincerely hopes to ignite creativity in future leaders, and to initiate possibilities of a better world in the time to come.
The main topic this year is “Emerge of New Giants: Evolution or Revolution.” The elevation of emerging countries in the G20 summit at September this year posed a question to both developed and developing countries as to how they should respond to the reshaping of global economic landscape. Should they apply incremental evolvement by gradually altering their current social structure? Or should they revolutionize their current status by drastic measures?
Delegates are invited to brainstorm strategies with three subtopics: “Natural Resources: A Golden Apple for Emerging Countries?”, “Emerging Countries at the Crossroads: Adoption of Green Technology", and “When East Meets West: New perspectives under Asian Culture Expansion.”
The elaborate introduction of the topics and latest information are on GIS Taiwan website: http://gis-taiwan.ntu.edu.tw/.
