    The fate and future of every organization rests, to a great extent, on the quality of its leaders. Good leadership skills can take a business that is failing to high levels of success. Bad leaders can take a successful company and cause it to fail. The question is, what kind of leader are you and what kind of leader does your organization have.

    Leadership Development is a whole industry in itself. Possibly with the exception of books about Abraham Lincoln, there are more books, programs, videos, and graduate courses about Leadership knowledge than any other topic. Again, many good ones, many not so good. But, trying to figure out which is better for you is a tough call. Awareness of and exposure to the different approaches and styles of leadership is key to discovering what might work best.

    Why Should You Attend:

    You finally got that promotion to a position of leadership - one you’ve been working hard for —which means that someone was impressed by how you performed in your previous role. But it doesn’t mean that you get to just sit back and enjoy the biggerpaycheck. Instead, it means you now are beginning the work of transitioning from one role you did well to a new role that most likely requires new skills.

    To start, be sure you know exactly what is expected from you in terms of performanceand as a leader. Once you know what success means in your new role, you need to get to work on becoming a good leader. Remember that your direct reports are transitioning too. Some may be new to their roles or might even have been your peers.

    Although you might assume that your ascension to a role indicates the company’s valuation of your strengths, your need to work to identify your opportunities for improvement so you can continue to learn and grow moving forward. Certainly, yourstrengths are important and a likely basis for reasons behind a promotion.

    However, many times what’s required for success in the leadership role is much different from—or even completely opposite of—what your previous role was. To become skilled at the requirements for the new role (and beyond), good leaders need to be adept at self-examination to understand what their weaknesses are and where they need to expand for greater success.

One of the ways to build trust is to display a good sense of character composed of beliefs, values, skills, and traits.
