Femtocell Communications: Business Opportunities and Deployment ChallengesEditors:Dr. Rashid A. Saeed, UIA, Engineering Faculty, MalaysiaProf. Bharat S. Chaudhari, International Institute of Information Technology(I2IT), Pune, IndiaProposals Submission Deadline: June 3, 2010Full Chapters Due: October 1, 2010Introduction:Femtocell is a new, emerging technology for cellular wireless networks, which has rapidly attracted cellular industry through two past years. Theadvantage of femtocell to mobile operators is to reduce the networkdeployment cost and increase coverage in indoor environment. Femtocell isalso considered a possible path to the fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) goal.Femtocell access points (FAP), or home base stations (HBS), are basestations designed for use in the user premises (home or small business). Itserves small number of users and covers about 30 square meters, similar toexisting WiFi access points. The uniqueness of femtocell in contrast tomicro and macrocellular is that it connects to a cellular network through abroadband network i.e. xDSL. A femtocell improves signal quality in indoorenvironments and provides high-speed wireless access mobile-Internet users. However, femtocell introduces new challenges to the mobile operators (MOs)in terms of the handoff between femto and macrocells, interferencemanagement, localization and synchronization, security and networkmanagement, not to mention radio resources management (RRM) between femtoand macrocellular systems and common radio resource management (CRRM). Themain two deployment challenges that face femtocell forums are the use cases(user experience) and interference from/to macrocell and other femtocells. Objective of the Book:This book is intended to give the audience extensive technical overview andlook at how the femtocell can be deployed to bring new applications, services and experiences to users. One of the promising businessopportunities is closed subscriber group (CSG) Internet services and bridgesthe gab between fixed and mobile applications.Target Audience:The book is targeting the engineers and marketing staff in telecom andcellular operators, where it will help them to have deep technicalbackground about this revolutionary technology to plan for their network andtake decisions for future trends. The book also target undergraduate(teaching and final year projects) and postgraduate research students, academicians and researchers working in the field of mobile communicationand new applications developments.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following focusareas:. Interference analysis, avoidance, and mitigation. Coexistence between a macrocellular network and femtocell network. OFDMA Femtocell and other Physical layers techniques. Resource allocation techniques. Worldwide Standardizations of Femtocell (3GPP, 3GPP2, WiMAX). Common Radio Resources Management (CRRM). Femtocells, picocells, relay networks, and distributed antenna systems. Femtocell Network Reference Model (NRM). Power control and power saving mechanisms. Cognitive femtocell networks. Self organizing networks and issues in self maintenance. Femtocell vs. Wireless LAN. Issues related to enterprise femtocells. System Specification Requirements. Closed subscriber group (CSG) versus open-access femtocells. Femtocell as a path to Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC). Business and regulatory aspects. Internet Protocol (IP) with flat vs. hierarchical Networks. Multicasting and Broadcasting. Mobility and Handover management. Synchronization and Location issues. Quality of Services (QoS) in Femtocell Networks. Security and Privacy in Femtocell Network. Femtocell Network Design and Planning. Safety and Emergency IssuesImportant Dates:Deadline for Chapter Proposals Submission: 3rd June 2010Acceptance Notifications: 3rd July 2010Full Chapter Submission: 1st Oct. 2010Review Results Returned: November 30th, 2010Revised Chapter Submission: January 30th, 2011Final Deadline: March 30th, 2011Manuscript Submission Guidelines:Technical contributions describing original, previously unpublished work, not currently under review anywhere, are solicited. Interested authors areinvited to submit chapter proposal (1-3 pages) to femtocellbook at gmail.comdescribing clearly the topic covered.. The proposal should include the chapter organization,. Contact address of the corresponding author.. Chapter outlines (tentative chapter ToC). ReferencesAll submitted chapters will undergo a double-blind peer review. Uponacceptance of chapter proposals, authors will be sent document preparationguidelines. The authors may be requested to modify the contents of thechapters if deemed necessary in order to maintain the consistency of theentire book and to include the most up-to-date information about each topic.Inquiries and submissions can be forwarded electronically (Word document):Inquiries:Dr. Rashid A.
