Call For Papers - CFP
The European Society for Artificial Intelligence in MEdicine (AIME), was established in 1986 with two main goals:to foster fundamental and applied research in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to medical care and medical research, andto provide a forum for reporting significant results achieved at biennial conferences.A major activity of this society has been a series of international conferences, from Marseille (FR) in 1987 to Amsterdam (NL) in 2007, held biennially over the last 20 years. The AIME'09 conference will be a unique opportunity to present and improve the international state of the art of AI in BioMedicine from both perspectives of theory, methodology, and application. For this purpose, AIME'09 will include invited lectures, full and short papers, tutorials, workshops, and a doctoral consortium. The conference will be held in Verona - Italy.ScopeOriginal contributions are sought regarding the development of theory, techniques, and applications of AI in BioMedicine, including the exploitation of AI approaches to molecular medicine and biomedical informatics.Contributions to theory may include presentation or analysis of the properties of novel AI methodologies potentially useful to solve biomedical problems.Papers on techniques should describe the development or the extension of AI methods and their implementation, and discuss the assumptions and limitations of the proposed methods. Application papers should describe the implementation of AI systems to solve significant medical problems, and should present sufficient information to allow evaluation of the practical benefits of the system.Original long and short papers are sought on the development of theory, systems, and applications of AI in Medicine, including the exploitation of AI approaches to molecular medicine and biomedical informatics and to healthcare organizational aspects.Contributions to theory may include presentation or analysis of the properties of novel AI methods potentially useful in solving medical problems.Papers addressing theory should describe the development or the extension of AI methods and discuss the assumptions and limitations of the proposed methods and their novelty with respect to the state of the art.Papers addressing systems should describe the requirements, design and implementation of new AI-inspired tools and systems, and discuss their applicability in the medical field.Application papers should describe the implementation of AI systems to solve significant medical problems, and should present sufficient information to allow evaluation of the practical benefits of the system. The scope of the conference includes the following areas:Knowledge Acquisition and ManagementMachine Learning, Knowledge Discovery and Data MiningBiomedical Ontologies and TerminologiesDecision Support SystemsNeural Networks and Belief NetworksReasoning under UncertaintyTemporal and Spatial Representation and ReasoningCase-Based ReasoningPlanning and SchedulingProtocols and GuidelinesInformation RetrievalNatural Language Generation and UnderstandingBiomedical Computer Vision, Imaging, and Signal InterpretationIntelligent AgentsTelemedicine and Cooperative SystemsCognitive ModellingHealthcare Process ManagementSubmissions OverviewThere are two categories of paper submissionFull research papers (up to 10 pages)Short papers (up to 5 pages) that:are short research papersdemonstrate implemented systemsdescribe late-breaking results (work-in-progress)Papers should be formatted according to Springer's LNCS format (see www.springeronline.com/lncs or www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html).Authors are strongly encouraged to submit the papers electronically, following the instructions provided in the conference web page (see below). All accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings which will be published as part of Springer's "Lecture Notes in AI" series. In addition, the authors of the best submissions will be invited to expand and refine their papers for possible publication in the journal Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (Elsevier). As in previous AIME conferences, proposals for the organisation of tutorials and satellite workshops are sought regarding any of the above topic areas.Important datesProposals for Tutorials: February 9, 2009Proposals for Workshops: February 9, 2009Electronic Draft Abstract Submission Deadline: February 2, 2009Electronic Paper Submission Deadline: February 9, 2009Notification of Acceptance: April 6, 2009Camera-Ready Copy Deadline: April 27, 2009Programme CommitteeAmeen Abu-Hanna, The Netherlands (Doctoral Consortium Chair)Klaus-Peter Adlassnig, AustriaSteen Andreassen, DenmarkPedro Barahona, PortugalRiccardo Bellazzi, ItalyPetr Berka, Czech RepublicIsabelle Bichindaritz, USAPaul de Clercq, The NetherlandsCarlo Combi, Italy (Local Chair and Scientific co-Chair)Michel Dojat, FranceHenrik Eriksson, SwedenCatherine Garbay, FrancePeter Haddawy, ThailandArie Hasman, The NetherlandsReinhold Haux, GermanyJohn Holmes, USAWerner Horn, AustriaJim Hunter, UKHidde de Jong, FranceElpida Keravnou, CyprusPedro Larranaga, SpainNada Lavrac, SloveniaJohan van der Lei, The NetherlandsXiaohui Liu, UKPeter Lucas, The NetherlandsRoque Marin, SpainPaola Mello, ItalyGloria Menegaz, ItalySilvia Miksch, AustriaStefania Montani, ItalyMark Musen, USABarbara Oliboni, ItalyNiels Peek, The NetherlandsMor Peleg, IsraelChristian Popow, AustriaSilvana Quaglini, ItalyMarco Ramoni, USAAlan Rector, UKStephen Rees, DenmarkLucia Sacchi, ItalyRainer Schmidt, GermanyBrigitte Seroussi, FranceYuval Shahar, Israel (Scientific Co-Chair)Basilio Sierra, SpainCostas Spyropoulos, GreeceMario Stefanelli, ItalyPaolo Terenziani, ItalySamson Tu, USAAllan Tucker, UKFrans Voorbraak, The NetherlandsDongwen Wang, USAThomas Wetter, GermanyBlaz Zupan, SloveniaPierre Zweigenbaum, FranceOrganizing CommitteeCarlo Combi, Barbara Oliboni and Roberto PosenatoDipartimento di InformaticaUniversit¨¤ degli Studi di Verona, ItalyYuval Shahar, Beer Sheva, Israel (Programme Committee co-Chair)Carlo Combi, Verona, Italy (Programme Committee co-Chair and Organizing Committee Chair)
