The 4th IEEE International Workshop on Broadband Convergence Networks (BcN 2009)June 5, 2009, New York, USA (In conjunction with IEEE/IFIP IM 2009)http://www.ieee-im.org/Convergence is a key design aspect for next generation networks. Theseamless integration of the wireless and wired network architectures, pointto point and broadcasting communications, data and multimedia orientedservices, mobile and cellular systems, sensors networks, fast fiber and longdelay networks remains a challenging endeavor. The end-to-end picturebecomes unclear to say the least. As new technologies meet old ones, many need to be revisited to fit intothis complex scenario. In this Workshop, we will look at the latest advancesin Broadband technologies including IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN, 802.16Wireless MAN (WiBro, WiMax) and 3G/4G wireless cellular networks and theirSIP based IMS platform, broadband access networks such as xDSL and Cable andexamine their use for emerging streaming, multicast and broadcastapplications such as IPTV.We also welcome research into next generation architectures and theirmanagement. Architectural design issues such as naming and addressing, routing and service scalability, late binding, cross layer design, mobilityand heterogeneous support, service orchestration, among others are alsoencouraged into the broadband context. This 4th edition of the event builds on the success of the 1st. IEEEInternational Workshop on Broadband Convergence Networks (BcN2006) held onApril the 7th. 2006 in Vancouver, Canada, in conjunction with IEEE/IFIPNOMS2006), the 2007 edition held on May the 21st of 2007 in Munich, Germany(In conjunction with IEEE/IFIP IM2007) and the 2008 edition held on Aprilthe 7th of 2008 in Salvador, Brazil (In conjunction with IEEE/IFIP NOMS2008).We seek to draw researchers with different backgrounds to share theirexperience and knowledge of the current status of standardization andtechnology development of BcN, to discuss challenges and present possiblesolutions and innovations for the challenges that broadband networkingbrings forward.Topics of interest for this workshop include, but not limited to, thefollowing:- Trends in broadband networking, architectures and standardization- Converged networking issues for telecommunication and broadcasting- Fixed and mobile networks convergence- IMS and Telecom convergence- Next Generation Networks- Broadband access networking with hybrid fiber optic and wireless network- Seamless service provisioning with roaming and handover- Regulatory issues- Applications and service provisioning- QoS, mobility and policy management in broadband networks- 3P services over broadband access networks- Security issues on the convergence networks- Accounting and billing- Automated resource management and service provisioning- Signaling for application sessions and networking- Virtual networks and operators- Overlay networks- TCP for broadband links- Streaming services over wireless access networksPAPER SUBMISSIONAuthors are invited to submit original contributions (written in English) inPDF format through the JEMS (Journal and Event Management System). We areseeking submissions for full papers (max. 6 pages on 2-column IEEE style)and short papers presenting position statements or preliminary results onrelevant work (up to 2 pages on 2-column IEEE style).
