    Introduction

    Wireless Sensor Network is a very dynamic, grooming and important research topic of today’s technology. It also provides the finest, cheapest and the fastest way for solving the typical problems almost for all application scenarios, including defense, battle fields, health, environmental, instrumental, home appliances and specially for chemical sites. Designing, implementing, and operating a wireless sensor network involves a wide range of disciplines and many application-specific constraints. To make sense of and take full advantage of these systems, an excellent approach is needed? As WSN is currently playing a major role and also a good segment of researchers are focusing on this area. Although this field is little bit mature with many aspects but the main issue with this technology is related to its energy constraint, and it is highly important factor as of all operations based on it. Researchers suggested so many different ways to save its energy, enhance its efficiency and life in different aspects. But it still need to be consider more, for getting more accurate and precise results by applying new trends and techniques including data routing and aggregation, query processing, programming models, and system organization. How a wireless sensor network should be built to optimize performance and economy?

    Objective of the Book

    This book aims to provide a comprehensive reference for wireless sensor network by covering all important topics introduction, applications, MAC, Routing Protocols, TCP, performance and traffic management, time synchronization energy efficiency and including security. It will be divided into sections and with each section, extends the growing literature on the emerging technologies and innovations would be covered. Thus it would not only serve as a reference for existing WSN technologies, but it would also become a reference for new innovation in WSN.

    This editing book has the dual objective of encouraging more research in WSN technologies and applications and at the same time of publishing the best research being conducted today. Specifically, we seek to explore how, given its current stage of development WSN applications and innovations.

    In the past 5 years, there is no an edited book that focuses in merging the WSN network and system perspectives. There are few edited books that focus in each perspective individually. However, merging both perspectives gives a clear view about the current and future development WSN applications and technologies.

    Book outline and strategy

    We will follow the following strategy to edit this book. We decided to split its contents into two parts: The first part is to specify it very strictly, basing on personal invitations to carefully chosen researchers, and leave the second part open to general chapter submissions. Thus, this book could combine two objectives

    ? introducing the WSN Network and system perspectives

    ? Exploring and illustrating the current and new trends that combine them.

    Submission Procedure

    Researchers, practitioners and professionals are invited to submit on or before October 15, 2010, a chapter proposal, maximum three pages long, clearly explaining the topic and objectives of their proposed chapter. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by November 1, 2010 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines if the proposal is accepted. Full chapters are to be submitted by December 31, 2010. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

    This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global, publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints.
