    Workshop on Mobile Widgets

    In conjunction with the World Wide Web conference 2009

    The objective of this workshop is to provide a single forum for researchers and technologists

    to discuss the state-of-the-art, present their contributions, and set future directions in

    emerging innovative applications for mobile users with a focus in mobile widgets, mashups

    and interactive media.

    2009 will be a year for users to create their own personalized mobile applications. A Mobile Widget is a small application that does one simple function well. Users can now choose to combine multiple widgets to create their own personalized mashup. Developers are challenged more than ever to provide richer innovative services via widgets.

    Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

    - Mobile Widgets and Mashups

    - Widget engine interoperability

    - Widget packaging and rendering technology

    - Mobile Ajax, JSF, SVG-T etc. What role do Ajax toolkits have to play in bringing rich experience to the mobile browser?

    - Looking beyond Ajax for asynchronous communication, mobile p2p applications

    - Mobile browser as a rich application environment

    - Role of voice and multimodal technologies/applications

    - Media adaptation and content filtering

    - User Generated Content, content authoring from a mobile phone

    - How can a widget behave consistently in case of network disruptions

    - Offline widget operation and maintaining interactivity in disconnected scenarios

    - Communication efficiency for mobile widgets

    - Usability of mobile widgets

    - Widget interaction with local devices and resources

    - Mobile phone advertising, rich media and advertising

    - Models for rich media client (thin / thick)

    - Mobile widgets to leverage the use of mobile web in Developing Countries

    - Mobile gaming and location based services

    - Cross platform services (e.g. 3 screen services (TV, PC, phone))

    - Mobile Virtual World and 3D technologies

    *** IMPORTANT DATES ***

    - Submission deadline: February 12th, 2009

    - Notification of acceptance: March 2nd, 2009

    - Camera ready version: March 16th, 2009

    *** PAPER SUBMISSION ***

    Paper submissions will be evaluated according to the relevance and originality of the work

    and to their ability to generate discussions between the participants of the workshop. The

    format of submitted papers must follow the same style as regular WWW2009 papers, including

    no page numbers. You are invited to submit a full paper describing completed work (up to 5 pages)

    or a position paper describing work in progress (up to 2 pages), 8.5 x 11-inch pages (including

    figures, tables and references) in 10 point font. Include an abstract, five to ten keywords,

    and the corresponding author's e-mail address.
