The IEEE international conference on Technology for Education, T4E 2012, will be held at IIIT-Hyderabad, India from July 18-20, 2012. It will provide a forum to bring together colleagues interested in promoting learning and teaching through the use of technology. Proposals are invited from students, teachers and researchers in academia and industry to present results of their research and development efforts in education through the use of technology and to discuss further directions. This is fourth in a series of annual conferences.The first three were held in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Chennai in the years 2009, 2010 and 2011, respectively.Areas of FocusThe Conference is expected to have several sessions, jointly or in parallel, on the following themes:Development of technologies used to support educationInnovative use of ICT for content development and classroom usePedagogies for remote learning and e-learning, blended learning and learning using technologyAssessment and evaluation of above technologies, content and pedagogiesSupport systems for distance education, e-learning, blended learningMobile learningCognition and learning technologiesGrowth and impact of the Open Educational Resources movementTechniques and standards for accurate identification of relevant learning resourcesContent repositories for teaching and learning and different methodologies for creation of social networks for group learningDevelopment of software to enhance learningSemantic web technologies in educationAdaptive, cognitive and personalized approaches for improvement of educationSmart technologies in educationImpact of social networks on learningVirtual/online experimentation and scalable solutionsSession FormatsThe conference will include the following sessions:Full papers:6-8 pages. Full papers meant for full presentation at the conference will contain detailed descriptions of research, development, applications and other aspects related to the conference themes. A total time of twenty minutes will be given to the authors of the paper to highlight significant results and conclusions of the research work submitted, and will include additional time for questions and answers. These papers can be optionally accompanied by a poster that will be displayed during the conference.Short papers:3-4 pages. Short papers will be brief presentations of technologies developed, techniques used or results of research. A total time of ten minutes will be given to the principal author of the paper to highlight significant results and conclusions of the research work submitted, and will include time for questions and answers. These papers can be optionally accompanied by a poster that will be displayed during the conference.Reflection papers:Reflection papers might review recent research literature pertaining to a particular problem or approach, indicate what the findings suggest, and/or provide a suggestion - with rationale and justification - for a different approach or perspective on that problem. Reflection papers might also analyze general trends or discuss important issues pertaining to learning and instruction in the digital age. These have two pages at maximum (1500 words). Authors will be asked to display their work in poster format and will take part in a panel session.Tutorials:These sessions will provide participants an opportunity to experience first-hand, the research tools, techniques and results presented. Tutorial presenters are encouraged to create an interactive environment for participants to become familiar with design, strategies, pedagogies, data, and assessment associated with technologies that are used in the teaching-learning process. A two-page description of the tutorial must be submitted for review. The description must include objectives of the tutorial, presenter's previous experience with the material, equipment needed, an outline of the content and a CV of the author(s).Student GrantsStudents are encouraged to submit papers for the conference. A limited number of grants to cover part of the expenses are expected to be available for students whose papers are selected. Authors intending to submit papers to T4E 2012 may please fill out the 'Register to Submit' form on EDAS that will be available soon.
