First GOLC Remote Laboratories Workshop:Improving Laboratory Learning OutcomesHeld in conjunction with FiE 2011Rapid Springs, South Dakota, USA, 12th Oct 2011SCOPELaboratories are an integral element of Science and Engineering courses. Remote Laboratories provide real-time flexible access across the internet to physical laboratory apparatus, and can be used to improve both the laboratory experience and access to laboratories. This workshop aims to share insights into the most effective pedagogic design of remote laboratories and how we ensure that the learning outcomes for students are most effectively achieved.TOPICSThe specific topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to:1. Learning outcomes that can be most effectively achieved using remote laboratories;2. Analysis of the learning that occurs in remote labs;3. Integration with laboratories of educational tools such as lessons plans, collaboration support, etc.4. Learning assessment in remote laboratoriesSubmission guidelinesFull papers should be submitted in accordance with the FiE formatting and length requirements (see http://fie-conference.org/fie2011/Author/index.html
). All papers must represent original and unpublished work that is not currently under review. Each paper will be reviewed by independent referees. At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop. Accepted papers will be included in the FiE proceedings.
