The 30th ACM International Conference on Design of Communication (SIGDOC) will be held in Seattle, WA on Oct. 3-5, 2012. At SIGDOC, presenters cover all aspects of the design of interactive systems and related texts, including those used in industry, recreation, education, science, and social exchanges.Industry and academic researchers are encouraged to submit research papers, experience reports, and interactive posters. Contributions may include studies of design processes, research methods, deployment analyses, and situated use studies related to the design and use of communication artifacts.Conference submissions should address topics including, but not limited to:Design for InteractionUser Experience Methods to Support DesignUser Support Systems and DocumentationOpen Source Design SolutionsCollaborative SystemsDesign PrinciplesHuman-Computer Interaction (HCI/CHI)Computer-Mediated CommunicationApproaches to Information Design and Information ArchitectureDesign of Learning Systems/EnvironmentsInternational and Intercultural Communication DesignGuidelines for Submission TypesSIGDOC 2011 submission types include research and technical papers, experience reports, and posters. Authors should submit full papers as described below for blind review. Full papers should not exceed 5,500 words, approximately 10 pages in ACM SIGDOC conference format (available at the site), including figures and references. The results described must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. The full paper must include the title, an abstract of up to 150 words, and keywords. For first submissions, do not include author names or affiliations.Experience Reports. Experience reports present project- or workplace-focused summaries of important technologies, techniques, or product processes and should not exceed 3,500 words. The experience report is a standalone, six-page extended abstract that describes a design experience and its lessons for other designers of communication. The experience report must include the title, an abstract of up to 150 words, and keywords. For first submissions, do not include author names or affiliations.Posters. Poster proposals should not exceed 1,000 words. Accepted poster submissions will be published as a one-page abstract in the conference proceedings. The submission should be formatted according to the ACM guidelines for paper submissions.
