As many large-scale enterprise information systems start to utilize P2P networks, parallel, grid, cloud and Internet computing, they have become a major source of business information. Techniques and methodologies to extract quality information in distributed systems are of paramount importance for many applications and users in the business community. Data mining and knowledge discovery play key roles in many of today’s prominent business intelligence applications to uncover relevant information of competitors, consumers, markets, and products, so that appropriate marketing and product development strategies can be devised. In addition, formal methods and architectural infrastructures for related issues in distributed systems, such as e-commerce and computer security, are being explored and investigated by many researchers.BIDS-2011 aims to bring together scientists, engineers, and practitioners to discuss, exchange ideas, and present their research findings on business intelligence applications, techniques and methodologies in distributed systems.Topics of interest that BIDS-2011 covers include general business intelligence techniques and methodologies, as well as their application in distributed systems (but are not limited to):Business Text, Data, and Media MiningDistributed System Architecture and Infrastructure for Business IntelligenceMarketing Information Retrieval and Client Knowledge DiscoveryConsumer Social Networks and On-Line CommunitiesMarket Information Categorisation and FusionWeb Search, Ranking and Optimisation of Business Sites and ProductsCollaborative Filtering, Personalisation and Recommender Systems for Business ProductsSemantic Web and Ontology for Business Intelligence TechnologyCyber Security, Privacy, and Trust in e-Commercee-Technology, e-Government, and e-Learning for BusinessBusiness Wikis and Blogs MiningWeb IntelligenceCompetitive IntelligenceBusiness Web Evolution and AnalyticsAccepted papers will be published by the Conference Publishing Services (CPS) and archived in the Digital Library.Extended version of selected papers presented at BIDS-2011 will be considered for publication in special issues of several international journals.
