Unpublished, original work in progress, ordissemination and discussion of new ideas in Computing Education Research.Discussion papers should clearly indicate the issue that the author aims todiscuss, as well as discussion questions and a mechanism to promote a debateamong the conference participants. A discussion paper is evaluated by itsanticipated impact on discussions during the conference. At least half thepresentation time allocated to a discussion paper should be used for a publicdiscussion.+ Poster/demo [2 page abstract]. Interactive presentation of emerging ideas forresearch, teaching practice, or tools can be presented as posters ordemonstrations. Submissions are evaluated based on their originality and thepossible future contribution to the field of Computing Education. In additionto the abstract and live tool demo on site, we strongly encourage the author(s)to prepare a max. 3 minutes screencast (a short video) to be presented for theaudience before the demo session as well as to be included in the conferencewebsite.Additionally, there will be two workshops [see separate links on conferencewebsite] + A Doctoral Consortium for PhD students studying computing education+ "Teaching computing at school and training computing teachers", a workshop onsecondary computing education and the training of secondary computing teachers.REVIEW PROCESS AND PUBLICATIONTo ensure selection of high quality contributions, submissions for theResearch, System, and Discussion Paper categories are reviewed by at leastthree members of the international Program Committee. Demo and Poster abstractsare reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. The Koli CallingProgram Committee takes pride in considering submissions thoroughly andproviding constructive feedback. The review process is double-blind, sosubmitted papers should be anonymized.All accepted contributions will be available as an electronic pre-proceedingsprior to the conference. The papers from the conference will be indexed andavailable through the ACM Digital Library.Authors of selected papers from the conference will be invited to submit anextended version of the paper to a the ACM Transactions on Computing Education(TOCE). or contact AriKorhonen and Robert McCartney .Call for Participation Koli 2011 Working group on Teaching Computing at School / Computing Teacher EducationSummary The aim of this workshop is to collect the state of the art and currentactivities regarding Teaching Computing at School / Computing Teacher Educationin multiple countries; and to use this overview to develop a vision and/oridentify trends of what to do next.We therefore intend to gather together a group of experts in a working groupthat will collect information on local activities via online collaborationprior to Koli Calling 2011 and then meet during the conference to discuss andoutline a report on Teaching Computing at School / Computing Teacher Education.Detailed Information In different countries Computer Science Education inSchools is evolving. New initiatives, new curricula, new forms of support forteachers, development of course materials and so own contribute to this ? butonly very rarely these initiatives and developments take notice from eachother.In a workshop on Computer Science Education at Schools / Computer ScienceTeacher Education we aim to bring together experiences, approaches, and ideas,and develop a vision for future steps to support each other.The focus is on Teacher education because teachers are at the heart of maturingthe situation of Computer science education in schools. The focus is on thoseaspects of teacher education / teacher support that aim to contribute to theevolution of CSEd at school.Procedure The working group will first collect and share information, and willthen discuss ideas for developing and maturing CS teaching and CS teachereducation.In the first stage, prior to the face-to-face meeting during Koli Conference,information on national state of the art in computing education at schools andteacher education will be collected using online collaboration. Participantsbasically refine and then fill out a questionnaire on the current situation.Also in the first stage a preliminary overview or summary on the collected datawill be developed.During the workshop we will discuss trends, future developments, andperspectives. Therefore the working group will specify problem areas, researchquestions, and possible development tasks.After the conference the results will be edited and polished in order toproduce a final report intended for publication.Keywords: Accepted papers list.
