The First International Workshop on Advanced Applications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WAASN'09)In conjunction with IEEE MASS 20095 Oct 2009, Macao SAR, ChinaOverview and scopeWith continuous advances in manufacturing low-cost sensors and increasing research efforts on sensor networking, wireless sensor networks have attracted tremendous interests from academy, industry and government. Significant progress has been made in low-power hardware design, operating system, wireless communication, sensor networking, and data management. This has made it more and more practical to develop wireless sensor networks for a wide spectrum of real world applications, ranging from habitat monitoring, security surveillance, military applications to healthcare applications. This new workshop will focus on advanced applications in wireless sensor networks, which can serve all sectors of the society. These advanced applications usually require an integrated system solution that covers all aspects of a wireless sensor network, including sensor design, networking, data processing, power conservation and importantly, user interface design. The purpose of this workshop is to provide researchers, professionals and practitioners with a unique forum for discussing recent progress in sensor network applications and exchanging open questions and new research ideas. New exciting applications of wireless sensor networks are most welcome. TopicsTopics of interest for this workshop include, but are not limited to, the following.Security surveillanceLarge-scale environmental monitoringDisaster managementMilitary and battlefield applicationsMedical and healthcare applicationsHabitat/ecosystem monitoringStructural monitoringPrecise agricultureDigital city and lifeObject trackingIntelligent robot controlBiosensor networksVehicle ad hoc networksMiddleware technologySelf-organizing network architecturePower efficient protocol designIn-network data processingSensor data managementDistributed signal processingDesign of low-power sensorsSecurityImportant DatesSubmission: 1 June 2009 Notification: 5 July 2009Camera-ready: 20 July 2009 Registration: TBAConference: 5 Oct 2009
