    In the past decades, the evolution of wireless technologies has brought

    significant changes in modern communication networks through its

    wireless extension of wired networks. Wireless communications offer

    organizations and users many benefits such as portability and

    flexibility, increased productivity, and lower installation costs.

    However, risks are inherent in any wireless network. As the technologies

    of next generation wireless networks are emerging, security has become a

    primary concern in order to provide dependable and secure communication

    between the wireless nodes in a hostile environment. The next generation

    wireless networks face many unique challenges in security such as open

    network architecture, shared wireless medium, limited resource

    constraints, and highly dynamic network topology. This special issue in

    Security and Communication Networks will present current research

    focusing on the standard or protocol related security, attacks and

    defense applications, security architecture and frameworks, and theories

    and methodologies in security in next generation wireless networks.

    Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:

    Standard or Protocol Related Security

    * Bluetooth Security

    * RFID Security and Privacy

    * Secure PHY, MAC, Routing and Upper Layer Protocols

    * Security in 3G/4G Mobile Cellular Systems

    * Security in IEEE 802.11-based Networks

    * Security in WiMax networks

    * Security Issues in All-IP Wireless Networking

    Attacks and Defense Applications

    * Denial-of-Service Attacks and Countermeasures

    * Large-scale Attacks and Defense in Wireless Networks

    * Security in Wireless Multimedia systems

    * Wireless Intelligent Defense Systems

    * Wireless Intrusion Detection Systems

    * Wireless Network Forensics

    * Viruses, Worms, and Other Malicious Code in Wireless Networks

    Security Architecture and Frameworks

    * Security Architecture for Next Generation Wireless Networks

    * Security for Critical Next Generation Infrastructures

    * Security in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks

    * Wireless Sensor Network Security

    * WLAN, WPAN, and WMAN Security

    Theories and Methodologies

    * Access Control and Trust Management in Wireless Networks

    * Benchmark, Analysis and Evaluation of Security in Wireless

    Networks

    * Identity Management and Authentication in Wireless Networks

    * Key Management in Wireless Networks

    * Security Simulation and Tools in Wireless Networks

    * Security Theory and Tools in Wireless Network Systems

    Papers must be clearly presented in English. The paper should be

    formatted according to the "Instructions to Authors" in Security and

    Communication Networks website and submitted to Manuscript Central

    through http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/scn. Submitted papers must not

    substantially overlap with papers that have been published or that are

    simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings.

    When submitting the papers, the authors should make sure to choose the

    manuscript type as "Special Issue", enter the "Running Head", and the

    "Special Issue title" as "SCN-SI-009" and "NG-security", respectively.
