    Call For Papers - CFP

Workshop on 4G Mobile Radio Access Networks

Delivering Ubiquitous User Experience via Cutting Edge Technologies

    1 April 2012

    http://www.tid.es/artist4gworkshop/

    held in conjunction with

    WCNC 1 - 4 April 2012 in Paris

    http://www.ieee-wcnc.org/

Over the last 20 years, data rates in mobile communications have seen a

ten-fold increase every five years. Compared to which, mobile network

operators have observed a true explosion of data traffic within their

networks only over the last few months. Although user expectations in terms

of data throughput and service experience are growing and data usage is

becoming intensive due to the generalization of flat rates, the average

revenue per user (ARPU) has to remain the same in order to ensure economic

viability for mobile network operators in mature markets. This translates

into a need to reduce the cost per transmitted bit. In addition, the network

upgrades have to be smooth and make use of the existing infrastructure (as

much as possible) in order to take advantage of previous investments.

However, for current and upcoming cellular technologies (e.g. HSPA, LTE R8),

the achievable data rates are strongly dependent on the users' positions in

a network. In these systems, a considerable gap between cell-edge and

cell-center performance is observed due to inter-cell interference, which

presents a major limitation for state-of-the art mobile networks. The

physical nature of the propagation channel makes the throughput in a cell

non-homogenous; the challenge for the design of next generation systems

primarily relies on the ability to boost this average performance,

especially for the benefit of cell-edge users.

This workshop will offer expert views and an opportunity for open

discussions on relevant topics, which include:

    . Position aware communication technologies

. Positioning in future cellular mobile networks

. Cooperation technologies for improving communications and

    positioning performance

. Femto base stations for communications and positioning

    . Beamforming and sectorization

    . Multi-antenna channel measurements

. Advanced relays architectures (e.g. capacity improvement, moving

    relays, multi-hop)

    . Interference alignment

    . Coordinated Multi-Point Processing (e.g. Joint processing and/or

    coordinated scheduling)

. Interference management in heterogeneous networks

    . Advanced receivers

    . Inter-cell interference cancellation in LTE-A

    . System-level evaluation with advanced receivers (e.g.,

link-to-system level mapping with interference cancellation)

. Advanced channel estimation and pilot design

. Joint backhaul & access network design

. Aggressive frequency re-use and beamforming approaches

. Experimental validation and field trials

    Submission Guidelines

The workshop accepts only novel, previously unpublished papers. Paper length

should not exceed five- pages in a standard IEEE conference, two-column

format (including all text, figures, and references). One additional page is

allowed but with a charge for the one additional page. Papers exceeding 6

pages will not be reviewed at all. Please see the author information page on

the IEEE WCNC 2012 website for further submission guidelines:

    http://www.ieee-wcnc.org/AuthorGuidelines.html

Accepted papers must be presented at the workshop. The presenter must

register for the workshop before the deadline for author registration.

Failure to register before the deadline will result in automatic withdrawal

of the paper from the workshop proceedings and the program. All papers

selected for publication will be included in the IEEE WCNC proceedings and

    IEEE digital library.

Submissions should be made through EDAS.

    Important Dates

    . Full Paper Submission: 10 October 2011

    . Acceptance Notification: 6 January 2012

    . Camera Ready Submission: 30 January 2012
