IEEE International Conference on Digital Game and Intelligent Toy Enhanced LearningApril 12-16, 2010Kaohsiung, TaiwanHosted by National Central Universityhttp://digitel2010.cl.ncu.edu.tw/
Sponsored by IEEE Technical Committee on Learning TechnologyThe Conference Proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press. In light of the shared research interests of the two communities, IEEE DIGITEL(International Conference on Digital Game and Intelligent Toy Enhanced Learning) and IEEE WMUTE (International Conference on Wireless, Mobile and Ubiquitous Technologies in Education) conferences 2010 will be held jointly in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Participants in both conferences will be able to interact and exchange ideas, which we hope will stimulate more exciting ideas for future research. The spurring of interest on deriving pedagogical principles and design from video games and digital toys offers a new angle of design for learning. Technologically, digital games employ advanced computing, multimedia and Internet technology; intelligent toys utilize embedded chips and sensors together with wireless, mobile, and ubiquitous technologies. What new theories are needed to explain the phenomena of learning through digital game and toy-based play? How can we characterize the pedagogies of digital game and toy based learning? How can these technologies be adopted for formal and informal learning settings? Can one really learn meaningfully and deeply from games? More specifically, DIGITEL takes "why to learn" (motivation and engagement), "how well to learn" (learning performance), "what to learn" (domain knowledge), "what to learn with" (computer programs or digital toys, virtual characters or robots), "where to learn" (physical settings or online), and "who to learn with" (individuals or teams) as the fundamental issues of investigation, extending the horizon of technology enhanced learning research. With shared research interests between the two communities, IEEE WMUTE(International Conference on Wireless, Mobile and Ubiquitous Technologies in Education) and IEEE DIGITEL(International Conference on Digital Game and Intelligent Toy Enhanced Learning ) conference 2010 will be jointly held in Kaohsiung Taiwan. Participants of both conferences will be able to interact and exchange ideas which we hope can stimulate more exciting ideas for future research.Link to WMUTE 2010. **The scope of DIGITEL 2010 will cover but not be limited to:Foundation and theory for designEducational Robots and ToysArtificial intelligenceVirtual charactersVirtual storytelling and game narrativeMultiplayer and social game designSimulation and animationAugmented/Mixed RealityGame-based Learning/TrainingGames in Real World (Ubiquitous Learning)Storytelling and Narrative in EducationVR-based Education/TrainingNon-Visual Senses (smelling, touching, hearing)Mobile games and its linking to online gamesLocation-based games and ubiquitous technologyIdentity in gaming to learn: roles and role-playingCollaboration, competition and communitySocial and Cultural aspectsEvent Submission Acceptance Notification Final Version DueConference Papers Sept. 26, 2009 Dec 4, 2009 Jan. 4, 2010Workshop Proposals Sept. 26, 2009 Dec 4, 2009 Jan. 4, 2010Tutorial Proposals Sept. 26, 2009 Dec 4, 2009 Jan. 4, 2010Panel Proposals Sept. 26, 2009 Dec 4, 2009 Jan. 4, 2010
