Workshop Scope and Description

Awareness is the ability to be smart in interpreting feelings and perceptions. Context is inherently complex, its effective use in intelligent context-aware systems representing a protracted and difficult challenge that has to date not been effectively addressed. In Contextual Computing, a context definition should include contextual information to enable systems to effectively and precisely understand users and their situated role (a situated role describing the current situation and environment individual users experience during their interaction with the system) while reacting dynamically to the users feelings and perceptions.

Intelligent context-aware systems include context awareness, intention awareness, situation awareness, location awareness, risk awareness, safety awareness, opportunity awareness, etc. The ultimate goal is to build smart context-aware systems and aware-based applications in theoretical and practical developments.

The aim of the workshop is to present topical and innovative research utilizing intelligent context-aware computing systems and technologies to address theoretical and practical issues in a diverse and heterogeneous range of application domains. This workshop provides a forum for engineers, researchers, and scientists to exchange the latest results of Intelligent Context-Aware Systems. The workshop seeks original contributions in all relevant areas addressing the fundamentals and developments in intelligent context and its use in context-aware systems including (but not limited to) the following topics:

Topics of Interest

Intelligent Context-Aware Applications and Systems include context/background awareness, intention/preference awareness, situation awareness, location awareness, risk awareness, safety awareness, opportunity awareness, etc.

Intelligent Context-Aware Hybrid Systems include Collaborative Systems, E-learning Applications, Distributed Distance Learning Networked Systems, and Networking Information Systems

Awareness for ubiquitous/ service computing includes Personalization, Targeted Service Provision, Ubiquitous Context-Aware Mobile Learning (m-learning), Ubiquitous Surveys, and Context-Aware Ubiquitous mobile Health Care.

Awareness for Web Technologies includes Ontology and Semantic Web Technologies.

Context-aware and intelligent networking include Context-Aware Mobile and Smart information systems

Database and Knowledge management issues in Context-Aware Systems

Submission Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit research papers in English. Papers should be maximum 6 pages long in letter page two column format. The conference proceedings format with templates and author guidelines can be located at: http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/submission. Submission to the Workshop Co-Chairs in PDF format is recommended.

Publication

All papers will be peer-reviewed by members of the ICAS-2012 program committee and selected reviewers. Reviews will be based on their originality, significance, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Accepted papers will be given guidelines in preparing, formatting, and submitting the final manuscript(s) together with the notification of acceptance. The Conference Proceedings will be published by Conference Publishing Services (CPS). Presented papers will be considered for publication in a number of Special Issues of International Journals including the Int.J.Space-Based and Situated Computing.
