Now in its third year, the AMIA CRI Summit highlights new informatics models, methodologies, tools, and platforms for the capture, storage, retrieval, integration, visualization, extraction, and analysis of biomedical research data. The explosive growth in the size and diversity of biomedical research data and knowledge resources continues to push the frontiers of current CRI capabilities. The AMIA 2012 CRI Summit is the national forum where cutting-edge informatics approaches are showcased.

The 2012 AMIA CRI Summit will expand previous meetings with peer-reviewed presentations, panels, and posters, and invited speakers. As in previous years, we highlight four specific areas for special emphasis. But we invite submissions from across the CRI community to present the broad range of activities that are addressing translational research informatics needs.

For the 2012 CRI Summit, the four highlighted tracks include:

Research and Resource Discovery, Collaboration and Sharing

Bedside to Base Pairs -- From Clinical Observations to Genetic Discovery

Clinical Care and Clinical Research Work Flow Integration

Emerging Informatics Platforms for Integrated Translational Research

Clinical Research Informatics is a vibrant and rapidly-changing field. Late-breaking sessions and podium abstract proposals will enable the 2012 AMIA CRI Summit to be responsive to these rapid advances. We seek to create an environment where all participants can engage in active dialog with the academic and commercial CRI communities. Professional networking is an important "Criteria for Success" for the AMIA CRI Summit.

The AMIA CRI Summit has grown significantly in its short 2-year existence, reflecting the recognition of the critical importance of informatics technologies to advancing translational research. The science of CRI is young, borrowing heavily from related fields and yet responding to unique challenges and needs. We look forward to receiving submissions that describe the new innovations and knowledge that you are creating.

Learning Objectives

To present the state-of-the-art in biomedical informatics approaches, theories and methods relevant to clinical and translational science;

To present the latest research and development findings on using informatics approaches to improve clinical and translational biomedical research;

To demonstrate frameworks for deploying and assessing clinical research informatics initiatives;

To explore interactions among professionals engaged in clinical and translational science including clinical and translational investigators, computational biologists, genomics researchers, statistical geneticists, clinical informaticians, public health informaticians, and those involved with clinical and research IT policy and regulatory issues; and

To provide a platform for discussing research-related issues among the national and international clinical and translational research informatics initiatives, such as CTSA, caBIG, CDISC, etc.

Process and Deadlines

All proposals must be submitted using the AMIA website according to following deadlines:

Paper Proposals Due: August 19, 2011

Panels, Posters, Podium Abstract Proposals Due: October 21, 2011

Journal Submissions Due: December 16, 2011

Decisions for papers and panels will be announced in mid October/November. Decisions for abstract presentations will be announced in November.
