China Conservatory of Music (CCM) is one of the best music colleges of China, which focus on Chinese traditional music education and research. It was founded under the late Prime Minister Zhou Enlai's proposal in 1964. The main mission of CCM is to foster professionals specializing in music performance, creation, theory study, technological work, education and other work related to music.

Currently, the Conservatory offers associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in three major (Musicology, Composition and Performing) and 40 minor programs. It has eight departments: Musicology, Composition, Chinese Instrumental Music, Vocal Music and Opera, Piano, Music Education, Conducting, and Art Management. In addition, there are Departments of Postgraduate Studies, Social Sciences, Adult Education, and the affiliated High School, as well as the International Cultural Exchange Centre.

The full time faculty of the Conservatory includes 75 professors, 11 fellow researchers and nearly one hundred lecturers. There are 1,675 full-time students, including 43 overseas students in CCM today. Over the past 40 years, many alumni have become renowned scholars or famous artists and a large number are currently active on stage both at home and abroad.

CCM has a tradition of paying much attention to international cultural exchange. Currently, the Conservatory has established friendly relationships and collaborated with dozens of music institutions in many foreign countries such as the USA, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Norway and Austria. In 1993, the Conservatory began to recruit international students and offer degrees to them. Since then, hundreds of foreign students from all over the world have been trained at the Conservatory. After their graduation from the Conservatory, these students have played a positive role in the cultural exchange between China and their respective countries.
