Special Track on Collaboration and Technology-Mediated Communicationin HealthcareBridget Kane & Saturnino Luz, Trinity College Dublin, IrelandCommunication, Teamwork, Interaction and Mobility are terms we havecome to associate with healthcare work. Communication can besynchronous or asynchronous, coupled and often mediated by multimediatechnology. The challenge of co-ordination and supporting co-operationin these work settings is an on-going problem for designers anddevelopers. Co-ordination of information among teams and betweeninstitutional settings is critical for efficient and effectivehealthcare delivery. In this economic climate, we are especially challenged to find moreefficient and effective methods of delivering services. We areprovoked to provide novel approaches to help to control disease andmaintain a healthy population. A range of technologies have thepotential for hospitals, teams, and individuals to reconfigure theirtraditional practices in new and effective ways.We invite reports on significant unpublished work in the area ofcomputer-support for co-operative work in healthcare, with particularemphasis on design and technology applications for interaction amongmedical specialists, and between medical specialists andpatients. Research on support for collaboration among medical, nursing, scientific, ancillary staff and patients is encouraged, including case studies or incident reports.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:Collaboration between individualsCo-ordination of InformationWard roundsTeam workingMeeting supportConsultationsShift handoverSpeech and Language in communicationTeaching/LearningShared displaysTechnology-mediated communicationRemote collaborationVisual communication environmentsIntense collaborative environmentsCollaborative writing note-takingCarer - Patient collaborationComputer support for co-operative healthcare workSubmissions to this special track on Collaboration andTechnology-Mediated Communication in Healthcare, will be doneelectronically via the CBMS web submission system, which will openapproximately one month before the deadline January 15th, 2012.Prospective authors should simply choose the Special Track title"Collaboration and Technology-Mediated Communication in Healthcare"when submitting a paper to this track. No hardcopy submissions will be accepted.
