The First International Workshop on Ambient Information Technologies

    (AMBIT 2012) (http://www-human.ist.osaka-u.ac.jp/ambit2012/)

in conjunction with IEEE Virtual Reality 2012 (IEEE VR 2012)

    March 5, 2012

    Orange County, CA, USA

    * AIM AND SCOPE

The aim of the First International Workshop on Ambient Information

Technologies (AMBIT 2012) is to bring together both theoretical and

practical researchers, who have been working for creating, designing

and developing innovative devices, middlewares, and applications in

the field of ambient information technologies. This workshop gives

an overview of the current knowledge on ambient information

technologies and discusses challenges and future directions of this

    field.

Ambient information technologies integrate several advanced devices

(e.g., sensors, displays, and actuators), middlewares, and

applications in VR (Virtual Reality) environments so as to users in

the environment can directly and indirectly interact with others as

well as with ambient environment for improving their quality of

experiences. Ambient information technologies enable users to

unconsciously access abundant information sources through several

types of devices in a timely fashion, depending on users' context,

which are non-intrusively sensored and tracked by the environment.

This workshop is expected to make a bridge between ambient

information technologies and VR technologies, in which there remains

many open issues in their integration. The current VR technologies

is expected to enhance ambient information technologies, and vise

versa. For instance, three-dimensional user interfaces based on VR

technologies should be effective for enhancing users' context

    recognition in ambient information technologies.

    * TOPICS OF INTEREST

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following

    areas:

    - Unconscious, intuitive, non-intrusive interfaces

    - Ambient information technologies

    - Ambient intelligence

    - User interface for ambient environment

    - Immersive environment

    - Augmented reality

    - Context awareness

    - Ubiquitous computing/networking for ambient environment

    - Computer-supported communication and interaction

    - Autonomous, distributed, coordinated environment control

    - Realtime environment sensing

    - Networking technologies for ambient environment

    - Applications of ambient information technologies

    * PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTION

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original

unpublished research and recent developments in the topics related to

the workshop. This workshop has two submission categories: oral and

poster. The length of the oral papers should not exceed 4 pages (IEEE

Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns,

single-spaced), including figures and references, using 10 fonts, and

number each page. The length of the poster papers should not exceed 2

    pages.

    Please visit

    http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting for detailed paper

formatting instructions. Camera ready papers in PDF format should be

    submitted electronically to

    ambit2012-submit[atmark]hi-mail.ise.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp

as well as the contacting information and your preferred choice of the

    submission category (oral/poster).

All papers will be peer reviewed and the comments will be provided to

the authors. Accepted papers will be published either on-line or by

    IEEE Computer Society Press.

Papers submitted to the oral category might be accepted as poster

papers. Authors of accepted poster papers are allowed to exhbit their

    research demonstrations alongside their posters.
