The First International Workshop on Ambient Information Technologies(AMBIT 2012) (http://www-human.ist.osaka-u.ac.jp/ambit2012/
)in conjunction with IEEE Virtual Reality 2012 (IEEE VR 2012)(http://conferences.computer.org/vr/2012/
)March 5, 2012Orange County, CA, USA* AIM AND SCOPEThe aim of the First International Workshop on Ambient InformationTechnologies (AMBIT 2012) is to bring together both theoretical andpractical researchers, who have been working for creating, designingand developing innovative devices, middlewares, and applications inthe field of ambient information technologies. This workshop givesan overview of the current knowledge on ambient informationtechnologies and discusses challenges and future directions of thisfield.Ambient information technologies integrate several advanced devices(e.g., sensors, displays, and actuators), middlewares, andapplications in VR (Virtual Reality) environments so as to users inthe environment can directly and indirectly interact with others aswell as with ambient environment for improving their quality ofexperiences. Ambient information technologies enable users tounconsciously access abundant information sources through severaltypes of devices in a timely fashion, depending on users' context, which are non-intrusively sensored and tracked by the environment. This workshop is expected to make a bridge between ambientinformation technologies and VR technologies, in which there remainsmany open issues in their integration. The current VR technologiesis expected to enhance ambient information technologies, and viseversa. For instance, three-dimensional user interfaces based on VRtechnologies should be effective for enhancing users' contextrecognition in ambient information technologies.* TOPICS OF INTERESTTopics of interest include, but are not limited to, the followingareas:- Unconscious, intuitive, non-intrusive interfaces- Ambient information technologies- Ambient intelligence- User interface for ambient environment- Immersive environment- Augmented reality- Context awareness- Ubiquitous computing/networking for ambient environment- Computer-supported communication and interaction- Autonomous, distributed, coordinated environment control- Realtime environment sensing- Networking technologies for ambient environment- Applications of ambient information technologies* PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONAuthors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting originalunpublished research and recent developments in the topics related tothe workshop. This workshop has two submission categories: oral andposter. The length of the oral papers should not exceed 4 pages (IEEEComputer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns,single-spaced), including figures and references, using 10 fonts, andnumber each page. The length of the poster papers should not exceed 2pages.Please visithttp://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/formatting
