IEEE CIT 2012 workshop on Cognitive Radio and Networks (CRNs 2012)

With the fast developments of wireless communication technologies and the amazing growing of wireless customers, the limited spectrum resource has become more and more scarce, and can not satisfy the transmission requirements of wireless services (Voice, Video and Data transmissions). On the other hand, based on current fixed spectrum assignment policy, the assigned spectrum is not in an efficiency usage, the utilization ranges from 15% to 85% according to the Federal Communication Commission report. How to solve current spectrum scarcity and inefficiency problems has become the key research topic for the development of wireless communications.

Cognitive radio (CR) has been regarded as one of the most promising technologies to solve these problems, since its inception in 1999. Based on CR technologies, spectrum resource can be assigned dynamically. CR users are capable of periodically sensing, and identifying available spectrum channels to occupy them while they are not being used by primary users. Once primary users are detected, the CR users occupying the primary users¡¯ channels need to vacate them. CR technologies represent a great potential for wireless communications.

The goal of this workshop is to bring together and disseminate the state-of-the-art CR research, addressing the various aspects of analysis, design, optimization, implementation, and application of CR technologies.
