TALE 2012IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment, and Learning for Engineering 201220?23 August 2012, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong KongTheme: “Fostering Innovation and Excellence in Engineering Education”The IEEE International Conference on Teaching, Assessment,and Learning for Engineering (TALE) will be held each yearin the Asia-Pacific region (IEEE Region 10) beginning in2012. It is intended to complement existing conferencessponsored by the IEEE Education Society, most notablyFrontiers in Education in North America (IEEE Regions 1?7)and EDUCON in Europe/Middle East/Africa (IEEE Region 8).The aim of TALE 2012 is to provide a forum foracademicians and professionals from various educationalfields and with cross-disciplinary interests to network,share knowledge and engage in dialogue around the theme offostering innovation and excellence in engineeringeducation. To this end, both research andpractice-oriented papers are invited that encompass allaspects of education in the engineering fields (includingcomputing, computer science, information technology andcognate disciplines). The conference will featuretraditional paper presentations, workshops, as well askeynotes by renowned educational experts and authorities.CONFERENCE TOPICSTopics of interest include but are not limited to:* Academic Staff/Faculty Development* Accreditation and Quality Assurance* Assessment and Evaluation* Online/E-Learning and Blended Learning* Capstone Projects* Computer-Based Learning and Courseware Technologies * Continuing Education andLifelong Learning* Curriculum Design* Distance, Open and Flexible Education* Educational Games and Simulations* Educational Policy, Leadership and Administration* Entrepreneurship Programs* Ethical and Social Justice Issues (e.g., Access, Equity)* Gender and Diversity* Generic Skills (e.g., Communications, Teamwork)* Industry Linkages and Partnerships* Instructional Design* Interdisciplinary Teaching Approaches* Introductory Engineering and Computing Courses* K?12 Initiatives and Partnerships* Laboratory Experiences (On-Campus and Remote)* Learning Analytics* Learning Management Systems* Marketing and Outreach for Engineering Programs* Mobile Learning* Open Educational Resources* Research Training (Undergraduate and Graduate)* Service Learning* Work-Based and Work-Integrated EducationPAPER SUBMISSION, REVIEW AND PUBLICATIONProspective authors are invited to submit papers of four(4) to six (6) A4 pages (including tables, figures andreferences) in standard IEEE double-column format. Paperswill be accepted only by electronic submission through theconference website, from which submission guidelines and atemplate for papers are available. A blind-review processwill be used to evaluate all submitted papers. Each fullregistration for the conference will cover a maximum oftwo papers; each student registration will cover a singlepaper only. All accepted and registered papers that arepresented at the conference will be published in theconference proceedings (CD-ROM/USB) and uploaded to theIEEE Xplore database, which is indexed by Scopus. Theproceedings will also be submitted for possible indexingto EI Compendex, ISI Thompson Conference ProceedingsCitation Index (CPCI) and INSPEC.Awards will be presented to authors of the best paperspresented at the conference. These authors, along withauthors of other selected papers, may be invited to submitrevised and expanded versions for potential publication inthe IEEE Transactions on Education, and/or other refereedinternational journals.
