The World Congress on Sustainable Technologies (WCST-2012) is a multidisciplinary congress, Technical Co-Sponsored by IEEE UK/RI Computer Chapter. The WCST bridging efforts across the natural, social and engineering sciences, the environment and development of communities. The congress covers a wide spectrum of topics that relate to sustainability, which includes technical and non-technical research areas. It also encourages sharing new knowledge in the field of sustainable technologies and the environmental impacts. The mission of WCST-2012 is to provide the opportunities for collaboration and reflection that have the potential to greatly enhance the infrastructure and capacity for conducting and applying art, science and technology for sustainability. The WCST bridges the gap between academia and industry by creating awareness of current development in sustainable technologies. The topics in WCST-2012 include but are not confined to the following areas:Sustainable Energy Technologies:Bio-energy and Geo-energyEnergyEnergy in Transportation SystemsEnergy Efficiency in UtilizationEnvironmental IssuesEnergy HarvestingEnergy Storage SystemsEnergy Storage SystemsEnergy Market, Management and EconomicsEnergy Resources for Portable ElectronicsEnergy Efficiency in UtilizationGeothermal energyIntelligent Energy, Power Transmission Distribution, Interconnects and ProtectionMaterials for Energy ResourcesNanotechnology in EnergyNew Enabling TechnologiesNew Materials for Energy Resources and RF and Magnetic Field Energy DevicesOff-grid Isolated Energy SystemsPolicy Issues on Renewable EnergyPower Electronics and Energy ConversionRenewable Energy and BiofuelsRenewable Energy Managements, Economics and Environmental Impact:Climate ChangeEnergy from wasteEnvironmental assessmentsEnvironmental issuesEnvironmental policies and planningHazardous ChemicalInnovative use of Renewable Raw MaterialsOffshore pollution and oil spillsPollution preventionSustainable waste management technologiesSustainability impact assessments and toolsEducation:Environmental EducationEducation and TrainingE-Society (e-Learning, e-Health, e-Medicine, e-Governance, e-Business, e-Art, e-Science) Green Computing:Advanced IT energy-aware technologiesGreen Computing Geo-energyE-CyclingE-InclusionElectronic wasteEnergy Efficient EthernetIT energy managementPower-aware softwarePower-efficient architectures and chip designsComponent level power management, e.g., memory, disk.Power aware networkingSmart Grids applicationsTechnology as Green Enablers (Grid, Cloud, Data Centers, Virtualization)Sustainable Building Design:Building Design and SystemCreative IndustriesIndustrial DevelopmentsLow and zero energy houses and buildingsNew Insulation materials and techniquesNew building materials and recyclingPhotovoltaics and Solar ThermalSustainability and Policy:Sustainable ApplicationsSustainable Development PolicySustainable InnovationsSustainable Technology ProgrammeWaste Management:Agricultural wastesIndustrial waste managementMedical wastesMining and mineral wastesNuclear and hazardous wasteWaste from electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE)Waste water treatmentResearch in ProgressOngoing research from undergraduates, graduates/postgraduates and professionalsProceedings, Journals and Book ChaptersAll the accepted papers will appear in the proceedings and modified version of selected papers will be published in special issues peer reviewed journals and book chapter with Springer.
