Call For Papers - CFP
ICFI 2009 -- First Call for PapersThe 10th International Conference on Feature Interactionsin Software and Communication SystemsJune 11-12, 2009Lisbon, Portugal(in conjunction with IFIP's DisCoTec'09)http://www27.cs.kobe-u.ac.jp/wiki/icfi/// OVERVIEW //ICFI is the primary international forum for discussing andreporting about research on the Feature Interaction problem intelecommunications and software systems since 1992. ICFI2009 willbe held in conjunction with Distributed Computing Techniques 2009(DisCoTec'09), a major cluster of conferences sponsored by IFIP.ICFI2009 aims to bring together representatives of thecommunications industry, the software industry, and the researchcommunity working on various aspects of feature interactions inorder to discuss possible solutions and their practical applications,as well as setting directions for further research.ICFI2009 will feature presentations by invited speakers, presentations of research and industrial papers (including shortpresentations), a doctoral symposium as well as posters and tooldemonstrations.// THE FEATURE INTERACTION PROBLEM //Feature interactions refer to conflicts among different featureson a system. The features may be functions, services, concerns oraspects. Even if each individual feature works as intended, usingmultiple features together may cause unexpected (and oftenundesirable) behaviors, due to the feature interactions. The feature interaction problem was first studied in the domainof telecommunications systems. However, the phenomenon can occur inany software system that is subject to evolution, because thefeatures of the new version of the system can interact with thefeatures of the old system in an undesired way.Emerging application domains for which the feature interactionproblem becomes relevant include policy-driven systems, Web services/service-oriented architecture, home network systems, buildingautomation systems, mobile and ubiquitous systems, Parlay, 3G, gridand active networks, product-line engineering, etc.Detecting, resolving, preventing, and managing the featureinteractions at different phases of the system life-cycle are morethan ever important problems that need to be addressed withcost-effective techniques and tools.// TOPICS //The following topics are relevant for the conference. Yet, wewelcome other contributions related to the feature interaction problem.- Feature interactions in software systems / applications- Feature interactions in emerging telecom and network architectures- Feature interactions in mobile and broadband services- Feature interactions in ubiquitous/pervasive computing- Service interactions (Web Services, SOA)- Current industrial practice and experience- Enterprise-level aspects of the feature interaction problem- Mechanisms for interaction detection and resolution- User-centric view on the interaction problem- Software-engineering view including requirements engineeringand design// PAPER SUBMISSION //All submissions must be in English. Technical papers submitted maybe full papers or short papers. Accepted papers must be presentedat the conference by one of the authors.* Full papers: These must be unpublished and must not be submittedfor publication elsewhere.* Short papers: In order to make the conference as complete aspossible from the point of view of coverage of current research inthe area, we also solicit short papers. These can be;(I) industrial reports- describe industrial case studies or research directions(E) example papers- describe examples of FIs that occurred in real-life systems(P) position papers- describe novel research directions(W) work-in-progress papers- describe slightly immature, but exciting new ideas(S) summary/survey papers- share FI research already published elsewhere with the FIcommunityFurther instructions to authors and publication details will bemade available on the ICFI'09 website in due course.// IMPORTANT DATES //- Deadline for abstract submission: January 9, 2009- Deadline for full paper submission: January 16, 2009- Notification of acceptance: February 27, 2009- Camera-ready version due: March 10, 2009- Conference dates: June 11-12, 2009// ORGANIZATION //Conference Co-Chairs- Stephan Reiff-Marganiec, University of Leicester, UK- Masahide Nakamura, Kobe University, JapanProgramme Committee- Daniel Amyot, University of Ottawa, Canada- Lydie du Bousquet, University Joseph Fourier, France- Jan Bredereke, University of Applied Sciences Bremen, Germany- Rui Crespo, Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal- Tom Gray, PineTel, Canada- Jean-Charles Gregoire, INRS-Telecommunications, Canada- Gang Huang, Peking University, China- Hiroshi Igaki, Kobe University, Japan- Mario Kolberg, University of Stirling, UK- Francis Leung, Illinois Institute of Technology, USA- Fuchun Joseph Lin, Telcordia Technologies, USA- Luigi Logrippo, Universite du Quebec en Outaouais, Canada- Evan Magill, University of Stirling, UK- Andreas Metzger, University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany- Tadashi Ohta, Soka University, Tokyo, Japan- Jean-Luc Richier, CNRS, LIG, France- Marc Ryan, University of Birmingham, UK- Pierre-Yves Schobbens, University of Namur, Belgium- Ken Turner, University of Stirling, UK- Michael Weiss, Carleton University, Canada- Pamela Zave, AT&T, USA
