    12th Hong Kong Diabetes and Cardiovascular Risk Factors ? East Meets West Symposium:

    Since its inception, the annual EMW meeting has gained a reputation as an important event, providing an opportunity for medical professionals to keep abreast of the latest developments in diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases, and to share their knowledge and experience.
    Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Diabetes and Obesity (HKIDO), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Foundation for Research and Development in Diabetes (HKFRDD), the Hong Kong Association for the Study of Obesity (HKASO), the Hong Kong Atherosclerosis Society (HKAS) and CMPMedica Pacific Limited (CMPMedica), with support from the Hong Kong College of Cardiology (HKCC), Society of Physicians of Hong Kong (SPHK), Hong Kong Dietitians Association (HKDA) and Association of Hong Kong Diabetes Nurses (AHKDN), the symposium attracted over 650 physicians and other healthcare professionals from Asia-Pacific and other regions.
    A distinguished faculty of leading local and overseas experts in diabetes and cardiovascular diseases presented state-of-the-art lectures to an international audience of cardiology and endocrinology specialists, diabetes nurses and dieticians.
    In addition, a special session was reserved for young scientists and clinical researchers to share their research data in oral presentations and posters. The Young Investigator Award went to Ms. M Hu for her research on C-reactive protein, while Mr. WT Wong received the 1st Runner-up Award for his study on ginseng extracts in the treatment of diabetes.
