    Call For Papers - CFP

    The First International Workshop on Emerging Techniques and Challenges for Hand-based Biometrics (ETCHB2010)
    In conjunction with The 20th International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR 2010)
    Istanbul, Turkey
    August 22nd, 2010
    Among various biometric technologies, the hand-based biometrics (including fingerprint, palm-print, hand geometry or hand shape, finger-knuckle print, hand vein, etc) are most popular and have the largest (about 60%) shares in the biometrics market. Although some traditional hand-based biometric techniques, such as fingerprints and hand geometry, have been well-established, new problems and new challenges keep emerging with the ever expanding applications of them and the increasing requirements of users. For example, the population using the hand-based biometric systems is becoming larger and larger, and personal authentication is now required for mobile devices and Internet, etc. Meanwhile, new hand-based biometric techniques are also emerging, e.g. high resolution fingerprint recognition, 3D palmprint recognition, and finger-knuckle-print based personal authentication, etc. In order to promote the development of hand-based biometrics, it is demanded to thoroughly discuss and study those challenging problems and emerging techniques involved in improving the accuracy, robustness, efficiency, and user-friendliness of hand-based biometric systems.
    The motivation of this workshop is to introduce the recent technical progress of hand-based biometrics and timely address the emerging challenges in designing, developing, and deploying modern hand-based biometric systems for various practical applications. The workshop aims to provide a vibrant forum for researchers and engineers to share their latest research results, findings and experience in relevant fields.
    Its specific goals include
    1) To identify emerging hand-based biometric techniques, emerging problems with hand-based biometrics, and new applications of hand-based biometrics;
    2) To explore the application of emerging technology in pattern recognition, image processing, computer vision and other relevant fields to solving the problems faced by hand-based biometrics;
    3) To advance the hand-based biometric technology, and further promote its practical applications.
    Especially, the following communities are expected to contribute to this workshop:
    1) Researchers working on sensors and algorithms for hand-based biometrics
    2) Researchers in hand-based biometrics who want to explore the latest advancement in pattern recognition and image processing fields to expand their work
    3) Researchers in pattern recognition, image processing, and computer vision who want to extend their work in hand-based biometrics
    4) Engineers working on designing, developing and deploying hand-based biometric systems
