The electric industry is being transformed from a centralized network to one that is less centralized and allows more consumer interaction in the form of a smart grid. A smart grid is a power transmission and distribution network that can incorporate millions of sensors all connected through an advanced, two-way communications and data acquisition system to provide real-time monitoring, diagnosis and control. Smart grid enables more efficient, reliable and secure energy service, facilitate grid-integration of renewable systems and energy storage, better routing of power and demand management. The move to a smarter grid promises to change the industry's entire business model and its relationship with all stakeholders, involving and affecting power companies, regulators, energy service providers, technology and automation vendors and all consumers of electric power.Journal of Electronic Science and Technology (JEST) invites manuscript submissions in the area of innovative Smart Grid Technologies. Topic scopes related to Smart Grid Technologies to be covered include:Ø Smart sensors and remote measurement and monitoring systems for smart gridsØ Smart grid component technology design Ø Control methodologies in smart gridsØ Applications of renewable energy, superconductors, storage, power electronics and diagnostics in smart gridØ Advanced control methods, to monitor essential components, enabling rapid diagnosis and precise solutions appropriate to any eventThe Guest Chair Editor for this issue is Prof. Danny Sutanto, School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering, University of Wollongong, Australia. The deadline for submission of manuscripts is 10 October 2010 and the publication of this issue is scheduled for March 2011.
