Database Technologies and Applications: Share and Explore (DTA-2009)

2nd International Computer Science and Technology

    San Diego, California, USA,

    June 30¨CJuly 1st 2009

The DTA-2009 track at 2nd International Computer Science and Technology Conference (ICSTC-2009) provides a premier forum for sharing and exchanging research and results to problems encountered in today¡¯s information society. The focus of this track is on pertinent issues and industry trends that are important for organizations. The goal of the Database Technology and Application (DTA-2009) track is to gather researchers and application developers from a wide range of database related areas and to advance the state of the art in the field and its various real world applications. The sessions during this track will allow database technology leaders, academics and consultants an opportunity to share and explore ideas and strategies that impact us all and to ¡°bridge the gap¡± between academia and business as well as provide opportunities for technical collaboration among database researchers around the globe.

DTA-2009 will provide an opportunity for academic and industry professionals to discuss the latest issues and progress in the area of database in general. In addition, the track will publish select high quality papers in journals. Furthermore, we expect that the track and its publications will be a trigger for further related research and technology improvements in this important area.

The track is also intended as a forum for PhD students working in the research area of database and application. The track aims at facilitating interactions among Ph.D. students and at stimulating feedback from more experienced researchers on the respective Ph.D. thesis topics. We encourage students at all stages of their Ph.D. studies to submit papers to this track. In particular, this includes students who are just starting their research and who would like to receive feedback on their research ideas and plan. The paper should clearly describe a problem, explain why it is important, detail what the existing solutions are and why they are not sufficient, and give some indication of new solutions the student is pursuing. There should be enough substance to provide discussion, but the work does not need to be complete. The submission should also indicate the expected duration of the Ph.D. thesis and the current stage of the work.

The DTA-2009 Track Program Committee solicits submissions covering innovative commercial implementations or applications of database or information management technology, and experience in applying recent research advances to practical situations. Acceptance of papers will be based primarily on originality, significance and quality of contribution and on recommendations of the reviewers. Authors are invited to submit papers in all areas of database technology and application but not limited to those listed below.

    Data integration, interoperability, and metadata

Systems, platforms, middleware, applications, and experiences

Industrial-strength systems based on database technology

Application of database technology to new areas or data types

New combinations of database technology with other technologies for special needs

Reporting of pitfalls, challenges, and difficulties

    Parallel and Distributed databases.

    Spatial and Temporal Database

    Fraud Detection

Examples of application areas for database technology include, but are not limited to:

    Text, Document and Multimedia

    Bio-Informatics and Medical/Health Systems

Content Management, Digital Libraries, and Search

    E-Commerce and Finance

    Engineering and Manufacturing

Enterprise Resource Planning and Data Management

    Geographic and Environmental Information Systems

    Home and Personal Applications

    Telecommunications

    Case Studies and Novel applications

We hope that DTA-2009 track, under the umbrella of the ICSTC-2009, will provide a common platform for researchers and developers in the field of database to present the latest progress in the area and to discuss any gaps between the scientific research and required methodologies, tools and applications in practice.

    Highlights:

Selected papers from this track will be considered for publication in International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS), published by IGI Global Publishers or International Journal of Information and Decision Sciences (IJIDS), INDERSCIENCE Publishers.

An award will be given to the best paper submitted to the track.

A limited number of grants are available for presenter and participants.
