Considering the increasing interests and concerns related to CSCL research, it is pertinent to hold a workshop that brings together CSCL researchers from diverse disciplines and countries across Asia Pacific, and have an opportunity for meaningful dialogue. In particular, this workshop hopes to focus on methodological issues by bringing together researchers who are interested in analysing CSCL interaction data from the perspective of content, discourse, conversation and interaction analyses; and any other meaningful and innovative analyses such as social network and semantic network analyses. The discussion focuses towards the methodological issues and good practices of analysing complex CSCL data. Both work in-progress and completed work are welcomed to present. To make the workshop more interactive and participatory, the program will include both paper presentations and break-out/panel discussions. We invite papers to be presented in the ICCE 2010 workshop “Analysing CSCL Data from Multiple Perspectives”. We encourage diverse perspectives and participation of researchers who have been involved in CSCL research in the Asia Pacific region. Relevant topics for the papers include but are not limited to the following:Theoretical models of analyzing CSCL dataMethodological consideration (e.g., unit of analysis, reliability, validity, multi-scaling, etc)Comparison of multiple perspectivesTechnical tools to support CSCL data analysisInnovative ways to analyze CSCL data (e.g., semantic network analysis, social network analysis, Web 2.0 tools, etc).Important dates are:Submission deadline of workshop paper: 27 August 2010Acceptance notification: 22 September 2010Final papers for the workshop proceeding: 8 October 2010Proposals should follow the format of conference papers. Dr. Hyo-Jeong So is an assistant professor in the Learning Sciences & Technologies Academic Group and the Learning Sciences Lab at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She obtained her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University. She has been involved in research studies on online collaborative learning and social presence, and collaborative knowledge building mediated by mobile technologies and Web 2.0 tools. Her research has been presented at the International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS), the Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) conference, the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and past ICCE conferences.Dr. Ching Sing Chai is an assistant professor in the Learning Sciences & Technologies Academic Group at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He has been involved in studying teacher’s beliefs in the context of Knowledge Building since 2002.Dr Seng Chee Tan is an associate professor in the Learning Sciences & Technologies Academic Group at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He obtained his Ph.D. in Instructional Systems from the Pennsylvania State University under the sponsorship of NTU Overseas Graduate Scholarship. He has been involved in Knowledge Building research in Singapore schools since 2002 and has introduced Knowledge Building to several schools, from elementary level to pre-university level, and in the National Institute of Education. He has obtained close to S$700,000 grant to work on three major Knowledge Building research projects in Singapore.
