A Special Issue of Computer Networks (Elsevier) On

“Internet-based Content Delivery”

Overview and Topics of Interest

Distributing and processing Internet-based data in an efficient and cost effective manner is a challenging issue in Internet technology. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) have emerged to address this challenge by offering infrastructure and mechanisms to deliver content and services in a scalable manner. Nevertheless, modern applications do not just perform retrieval or access operation on content, but also create, modify and manage content, and actively place them at appropriate locations. To deal with such new requirements, more general Content Networks (CNs) are being introduced. Design and implementation of robust and efficient CNs in large-scale computing environments demand the use of emerging paradigms and software technologies, such as Peer-to-Peer, Grid and the latest IT trend-Cloud computing. The integration of these emerging technologies in content delivery opens new perspectives in Internet technologies, raising new issues in the architecture, design and implementation of existing CDNs.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a comprehensive guide on new ideas and results in the content networking domain. It will capture the state-of-the-art in the content networking domain in terms of design, architecture, applications for content and service delivery in the Internet and Clouds; optimization for Cloud-based content delivery; and performance measurement methodologies. Topics for potential articles for the special issue include, but are not limited to:

* Content delivery and management on the Internet

* Anycast-based Content Delivery Networks

* Architecture and management of Cloud-based Content Networks

* Protocols and mechanisms for content production and content outsourcing

* Data management under Clouds and Content Networks

* Mobility in content delivery

* Dynamic content delivery and adaptive CDNs

* Service-Level Agreements (SLAs), business models and service pricing

* Content distribution internetworking scenarios, architectures, methodologies

* Interoperability / portability of applications and data between different Cloud and CDN providers

* Scalable, self-managing and autonomic Content Delivery Clouds

* Content networks for scientific computing

* Novel applications based on Cloud Computing and Content Networks

All submitted papers must be clearly written in excellent English and contain only original work, which has not been published by or is currently under review for any other journal or conference. Papers must not exceed 25 pages (one column, at least 11pt fonts) including figures, tables, and references.
