Call For Papers - CFP
MobiCom 2011The 17th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and NetworkingPlanned for September 2011, Las Vegas, NV, USAhttp://www.sigmobile.org/mobicom/2011/
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILEACM MobiCom 2011, the Annual International Conference on MobileComputing and Networking, is the seventeenth in a series of annualconferences sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE dedicated to addressing thechallenges in the areas of mobile computing and wireless and mobilenetworking. The conference will be held in Las Vegas, NV, USA, in lateSeptember, 2011.The MobiCom conference series serves as a highly selective, premierinternational forum addressing networks, systems, algorithms, andapplications that support mobile computers and wireless networks.Besides the regular conference program, MobiCom 2011 will also includea set of workshops, panels, research demonstrations, and a postersession that includes the ACM Student Research Competition. Moreinformation on these activities, including submission deadlines, canbe found at http://www.sigmobile.org/mobicom/2011
.PAPERS: Authors are invited to submit full papers presenting newresearch related to the theory and practice of mobile computing andwireless networking that pertain to the layer two or above of the OSIprotocol stack. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to thefollowing.*Architectures, protocols, and algorithms for various wireless andmobile networks, such as wireless LANs, wireless mesh networks, cellular data networks, delay-tolerant networks, mobile ad hocnetworks, sensor networks, personal area networks, and vehicularnetworks* System design, implementation, and evaluation of wireless systemsand mobile applications* Real-world measurements and characterization* Performance-oriented design and evaluation focused on networks andmobile applications* Foundational underpinnings of wireless networks* Testbed design and implementation* Cross-layer design for mobile and wireless networks ranging from thePHY layer to applications* Networks involving novel technologies such as UWB, MIMO, directionalantennas, software radios, visible light communications and underwaternetworking* Architectures, algorithms and protocols for dynamic spectrum usage, white spaces, and cognitive networks* Techniques that deal with low power and energy limitations* Operating system and middleware support for mobile computing and networking* Security, privacy, and trustworthiness of mobile and wireless systems* Emerging topics, e.g., robotic swarms, 60 GHz networking, socialnetworking and novel applications enabled by mobile and wirelessnetworking systemsMobiCom’11 will be a diverse conference and we strongly encourage thesubmission of mobile systems, experimental and theoretical papers. Theprogram committee will evaluate each paper using metrics that areappropriate for the topic area. For example, a systems orexperimental paper in the protocol area will be evaluated based on theinnovations in the protocol design, practical implementation, andrealistic evaluation, whereas a more theoretical paper may beevaluated mostly based on innovation within the design of thealgorithm and its provable properties. At the same time, theevaluation of wireless and mobile networking technologies ischallenging because of the significant impact that the physicalenvironment has on performance. For this reason, all papers mustcarefully describe and justify the evaluation methodology that is usedand identify its strengths and weaknesses. The program committee will referee all papers, and accepted paperswill be published in the conference proceedings.CHALLENGES PAPERS: The conference strongly encourages the submissionof short papers in the field of mobile computing and wirelessnetworking that present revolutionary new ideas or that challengeexisting assumptions prevalent among the research community. Thesechallenges papers should provide stimulating ideas or visions that mayopen up exciting avenues and influence the direction of futureresearch. Descriptions of new products or evolution of existing workare not appropriate topics for papers in this category. While anexhaustive evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary, insightand in-depth understanding of the issues is expected. Challengespapers will be reviewed by the MobiCom program committee and will bepart of the technical program and published in ACM MobiComproceedings. They should be submitted using the same submissionprocedure adopted for the full papers. The title of these papers muststart with the word "Challenge:" i.e., "Challenge: Rest of the Title."SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS: All paper submissions will be handledelectronically. Authors should prepare a PDF version of their fullpaper. Papers must (i) be no longer than 12 pages (8 pages for"Challenges" papers), (ii) be in font size no smaller than 10 points,(iii) have pages in double column format with each column havingdimensions 9.25” X 3.33”, a space of 0.33” between the two columns, and with no more than 55 lines of text per column, and (iv) fitproperly on US letter-sized paper (8.5” X 11”). More detailedinstructions will be available in the conference web pages. All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality throughdouble-blind reviewing, where the identities of the authors arewithheld from the reviewers. See the Mobicom 2011 website fordetailed instructions to authors on preparing a double-blindmanuscript. Authors' names must not appear anywhere in the paper or inthe PDF file. Submitted papers must be original work, and a paperwith substantial similarity must neither be already published, nor becurrently under review for publication in any other venue. Pleasedirect any questions about the paper submission process to the ProgramCo-Chairs at mobicom_pcchairs
acm.org.BEST PAPER AWARD: All papers will be considered for the Best PaperAward. The program committee will select a number of candidates forthe award among accepted papers. The winner will be selected at theconference, considering both the paper and the presentation. Thewinner will receive a plaque and a cash award.IMPORTANT DATES:Abstract submission due: March 2, 2011 (11:59PM EST)Paper submission due: March 9, 2011 (11:59PM EST)Notification of acceptance: June 9, 2011Camera-ready version due: June 30, 2011General ChairParmesh Ramanathan, University of Wisconsin-MadisonProgram Co-ChairsBrian Neil Levine, Univ. of Massachusetts AmherstThyaga Nandagopal, Bell Labs, Alcatel-LucentSteering CommitteeVictor BahlImrich ChlamtacDavid B.
