Keeping with the strong tradition of the Northeast Bioengineering Conference, we promise to create a conference allowing for new friendships and the exchange of ideas on bioengineering-related research. Our meeting will feature over 200 presentations from 40-plus institutions, including talks by leaders across different fields of bioengineering. As in the past, since IEEE-EMBS will serve as a technical co-sponsor of this event, the conference proceedings will be published in IEEExplore. Also, we are delighted to showcase an entire day of biomaterial-related topics, in a collaboration led by Prof. Helen Lu with financial support by the Society of Biomaterials.The theme of this year's meeting is "Biomedical Engineering for Society." In the midst of a national discussion on transforming our health-care infrastructure, the role of biomedical engineering has never been more important. We are thrilled that the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) has endorsed this meeting, and will hold a session on how bioengineers can advocate for the future of engineering, on Capitol Hill and across the country. Also critical in the health-care debate is the ability to translate novel research developments into products that will improve the health of patients. In conjunction with Columbia Technology Ventures, we will feature a medical technology showcase on emerging medical-device technologies from some of the most promising industry players in the northeast.Keywords: Accepted papers list.
