Call For Papers - CFP
ITU-T Kaleidoscope 2011 The fully networked human? - Innovations forfuture networks and services - is the fourth in a series ofpeer-reviewed academic conferences organized by ITU-T that bringtogether a wide range of views from universities, industry andresearch institutions. The aim of Kaleidoscope conferences is toidentify Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for whichthe development of standards can turn innovations into successfulproducts and services. The merger of the real world and the digital world can generateenormous improvements in our daily lives, but also raises somelegitimate concerns. Ever smaller and smarter sensors proliferate, wireless networks are omnipresent, smart phones are abundant. Futuredevices will not only be able to measure everything from users'whereabouts to their physical well-being but also to control justabout anything from a distance.ICT has the potential to greatly improve the life of persons withdisabilities by enhancing their access to communications. Throughimplanted sensors, e-health applications will support senior citizenscommunicating automatically their medical data to care providers... butwhat if the information falls into the wrong hands? Modern heatingsystems at home would be programmed, via hands-free devices, whiledriving to work... but what happens if this is done via a text messagedistracting the driver? How can we make increasingly complex devicesuser-friendly?The design architecture of future ICTs, as well as the services andapplications that arise, will have a significant impact on individualsand on human existence, ranging from cognitive functioning, health, security to national economic development and, more generally, thesociety of the future. Technology should be designed to benefithumans, not the other way around. Human-centric ICTs must be promotedin research and development circles. The fully networked human? - Innovations for future networks andservices - is calling for original, academic, technical papersoffering innovative and bold approaches to foster the research anddevelopment of human-centric ICTs as we move towards future networksand services.Audience:ITU-T Kaleidoscope 2011 is targeted at all specialists with a role inthe field including researchers, academics, students, engineers, regulators, top decision-makers and thinkers from all over the worldwho look into the future.Date and venue:December 2011, South AfricaSubmission of papers:Prospective authors, from countries that are members of ITU, areinvited to submit complete, original papers with a maximum length of4500 words within eight pages including summary and references, usingthe template available on the event website.
