Spatio-Temporal Data Mining: Theory and Applications

[Session Chairs]: Tomasz F. Stepinski (stepintzatuc.edu), Dan Simovici (dsimatcs.umb.edu), Wei Ding (dingatcs.umb.edu)

[Scope]: Spatio-temporal data is explicitly or implicitly utilized in many application areas such as: remote-sensing images, environment and climate analysis, traffic and trajectories analysis, etc. Potentially valuable patterns and information are hidden in spatio-temporal data sets. Especially designed data mining methods and algorithms are needed to discover knowledge in spatio-temporal data sets. The goal of IEA/AIE 2012 is to connect recent advances in research with the real world industrial/government application. The proposed special session is meant to attract participants interested in research topics and real world application in which spatial and temporal consideration are paramount.

    Topics:

Advances in analysis of spatio-temporal data.

Data mining theory, techniques and tools for spatio-temporal patterns.

Specific techniques and algorithms for dealing with time series data and streaming data.

Applications and case studies for geocoded data.

Association rules and pattern mining for spatio-temporal data.

    Trajectory analysis for moving objects.

Topics are not restricted to the above list and additional research issues related to spatio-temporal data mining are also welcomed.
