Call for Papers/Projects

Technical accomplishments characterize and transform cultures, and yet their importance is under valued, and their place remains obscure in today¡¯s learning institutions, in government policy, and in the public mind. To draw out the essence of human behaviour associated with ingenuity, the conference/exposition explores how ingenuity and technological learning are celebrated, dismissed, taken for granted, or mystified. What social mechanisms work for, or against, the integration of technological learning and thinking in democratic societies and institutions?

The conference organizing committee invites papers, projects, or performances that address the educational dimensions or problems of ingenuity and technological learning and thinking. Scholarship across the disciplines of History, Philosophy, and Sociology of Technology or Science, coupled with evidence, experience, and research from various fields of education, is welcome. The conference features an exposition of student and professional projects that provide examples of both sustainable development and design excellence. Project categories include (but are not limited to) Indigenous Ingenuity, Design and Problem Solving, and Robotics (specific design and project information will be available in advance of the conference).

We are interested in setting the parameters for future research and writing about the development, transmission, and ubiquitous nature of technical ingenuity. Peer-reviewed papers will be presented, projects will be adjudicated, and a proceedings publication offered.
