Call For Papers - CFP
The field of pattern recognition (PR) provides many successful examples of systems that have converted from theoretical studies to practical solutions in real-life applications. Since implementations of PR tend to be special-purpose, PR is often realized as some kind of embedded system. The spectrum of PR is vast. Recognized objects or events can be artificial or natural. Deployed methods can be deductive or inductive, analytical or statistical, programmed or hardwired, digital or analogue, supervised or unsupervised, etc. User interaction with such systems can be optical, phonetic, tactile, or based on other kinds of sensors. PR systems often provide multiple modes of interaction and input data processing. IMPRESS 2011 focuses on aspects of embedding, interaction and multimodality of PR systems. The workshop provides a forum for presenting and discussing the state of the art, ongoing research and development, innovative system features and forward-looking ideas in the field. In parallel with the presentation and discussion of written contributions, IMPRESS 2011 also features selected implementations of PR systems and prototypes in a demo showroom.TopicsWe are calling for papers presenting original research results, innovative ideas, work in progress, industrial experience, case studies or position statements. In particular, we welcome submissions that highlight aspects of interaction, multimodality or embedding. In general, submitted work should deal with PR systems in areas including, but not limited to the following topics:Analysis of imagess, signals, sounds, tracks, videosApplications: automotive, biometric, data mining, domotic, forensic, gaming, genomic, medical, etcClassification and indexing of itemsCoding and processingComputer visionDatabases and digital libraries for PRDescriptors and RepresentationDevice- and application-embedded PRDistributed, clustered, networked PREnhancement of audio, pics, videoFeature detectionFiltering, separation and segmentationFormal, mathematical, statistical methodsFuzzy and hybrid techniquesHardware acceleration of PR algorithmsImplementations of PR algorithms (DSP, FPGA, SoC, VLSI)Machine learning, relevance feedbackMorphologyMotion trackingMultimediaNavigation (aural, tactile, visual)On-line and off-line PRPerformance evaluationRecognition of faces, graphics, objects, shapes, sounds, text, voices, writings, etcRetrieval of images, patterns, sounds, videos; semantic retrievalRoboticsSensor systemsSimilarity MetricsSystem designUnderstanding of audio, images, scenes, videoUser interfacesSubmissionsPlease login here and submit an electronic copy (preferably .pdf) of your work. For dates and deadlines, click here. Submissions must be neither published nor under revision elsewhere, be written in English, contain an abstract of about 200 words and should not exceed five double-column pages in IEEE format. In case of any problems, please contact the organizers.ProceedingsAll papers submitted to IMPRESS 2011 will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers that are presented at the workshop will be published in an IEEE CSP proceedings volume of the DEXA 2011 workshops.
